Renault deal offered on my car

I received a letter from my local Renault dealer today quoting a reference number and my car registration number and asking me to ring to OFFER ME A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY! Has anyone else had this letter?
I have a 5 year old Renault wind convertible which I do want to either sell and buy a new car next year or part exchange maybe for a larger Renault or a Volkswagon Golf as our first grandchild is due in October and I will be doing some child minding for my daughter so a 2 seat convertible is impractical.
Normally I would ditch all letters offering special deals as they rarely are special but the dealer has said that Renault have given them some money to encourage owners such as myself with cars of around 5 years to trade them in so I have been "specially selected". As I do want to exchange it anyway I have agreed to come in and talk to them in around one months time but am going in to the appointment with a view that this is just a con as I am incredibly sceptical about such offers.
Has anyone else had any recent experience of Renault offers on trade in and was it really a good deal? Also bearing in mind the cost of brand new cars and how quickly they depreciate I was considering for going for one which is a year old this time so I guess the trade in offer will not be applicable anyway.
I cannot get an accurate valuation from Renault online without giving out my details which means I am likely to be pestered continually for the next few months so I have been reluctant to do that. My husband thinks I would get more for my car if I sold it privately anyway. Any advice?

Unique doessn't mean good though, perhaps they think you are at 'mug' stage?
Like anytime, it is what will it cost you to change?
It's not as if the offer is cash for you to go and buy another marque.0 -
Sounds like good marketing to me. But hey if you want to change your car why not have a look? Please remember that there is no such thing as a free lunch so there will not be any special pot of money? They may offer you a slightly better part ex as you already have a Reanult saying that there may be a loyalty scheme? Suppose the only way to know for sure is to go and talk to them.
Ps not being able to value your car with seeing it perfectly normal and if anything I would be worried if they could? After all how can they give you a true, real value without being able to accurately judge condition?Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -
They'll be wanting to sell you a new vehicle, not a one year old trade in.
Yes, you will always get more selling privately, many main dealer trade-ins go to auction and the price offered will reflect that.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Sounds like the usual blurb to get you in, but it would do no harm to go and have a chat - just dont expect miracles.0 -

This offer that would only apply to me and you want to give it to someone else?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
To be fair I was phoned by my local dealer who said words to the effect of 'have we got a deal for you'.
As I wasn't happy with the current car I bit and said tell me more.
The story behind the phone call was...
18 Months before I was car less after a write off and tried to buy my dream car. But couldn't afford one, even second hand, so bought a lesser model as I had to buy.
Fast forward 18 months, my dream car was being face lifted and the dealer had a number of unregistered older models he needed to shift. So remembered me and rang and asked if I wanted an older one at a BIG discount.
And yes I bought and was extremely happy. 4 years later I'm still happy in my Jag XF.0
