Suspending a sky account

Hello everyone,

I'm due to move out of my rental property shortly and likely won't be moving into a new place for several months. I currently have a contract with sky for phone, tv and broadband. I wanted to know if anyone had ever successfully put their contract on hold while such a move took place. Alternatively is it possible to cancel a contract when you move home? I'm not yet entirely sure if I'll even be able to receive sky in any new property I find. I am currently within a 12 month contract.

Thanks for your help.

You'll have to pay for the rest of the contract.

If you move straight away you can move and restart a new contract at the new property. There's a fee to move your services.

Where are you going to live for several months? Could you move the services into that property then move them again when you get into your new place?

If you can't get Sky TV in the new property you'll have to pay for the contract anyway. You can still get some of the Sky services by broadband.

I'm out of the country for a month and then I'll be living with family until I find a new place to live. Family already have sky and clearly I currently don't know if my new house/flat will even be able to accept sky.

I guess my only option then is to reduce the package to the minimum they'll allow me to until such a time I can (possibly) use the account again.

You can't downgrade if you are still in minimum term, nor can you suspend the account. Once you give notice the account will be closed after 30 days and the final payment will be taken, which will include the full ETC due. If you wish to resubscribe in the future you'll need to open a new account.

    That isn't quite correct.

You can't downgrade your plan without their agreement - which most providers will do in certain circumstances (ie job loss).

Also, how much will be due will depend. You would be charged an early termination fee but as with any breach of contract, you're only liable for reasonable losses naturally arising from your breach. There is no entitlement to any amount they can reasonably save. Theres also the case of accelerated receipt of payments not yet due - which the courts hold to be a betterment unless a discount is given to account for the accelerated receipt.

However the phone and broadband will be cancelled regardless.

No phone line then no phone or broadband contract possible
