Are Vista and wireless mutually exclusive ?

Three times this week I've had laptops with internal wireless cards, all burdened by Windows Vista.

They just don't want to connect to particular routers.

Since when did routers need to be compatible with Vista?

I'm starting to get a complex about it now..

Footnote: Maybe the fact that Dell are almost giving away computers at the minute is helping Vista sales?
Foot footnote. None of the laptops were Dell.

  • My laptop connected to my router with no problems at all
Don't listen to the bad things about Vista its the best

Just because it's free don't mean it's good

    Ditch Norton Now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wall:

Just Because you read it some where don't mean it's right ;)
  • Had this problem too. I have an upgrade of Vista sitting on the shelf waiting for my laptop componants to be compatible £180 :( just waiting around.

Vista doesnt like my built in Wireless, nor does it like a spare one i can plug in. Doesnt like my graphics card too much, doesnt like the audio. GRRR!!!

Its not as if I have an old laptop. And according to a compatibility thing on Microsoft it should work.

Hmmm, maybe I will install again in a few months. Shame I can't sell it on :(

A friend of mine has a new laptop running Vista, and she couldn't connect usinh the BT Voyager 205 router (not wireless). This router is not compatable with Vista according to the BT website, but it took an hour and a half for a foreign call centre to tell her that. (took me about 5 minutes!!)

As this was a new laptop and she was concerned to establish that it was working OK, she came round to mine to see if she could connect using my wireless router. This worked fine with no problems at all (BT Voyager 2091).

Any user with a new PC running Vista should not be connecting via USB anyway! There may not be USB drivers available for this 205 router but that does not stop the Ethernet port being used and is the preferred option anyway.

I have just bought a new Dell desktop computer with Vista and my BT wireless router, connected by the yellow leads works fine. I don't know about if it were connected wirelessly though
