Thursday 13th August - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free!

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending!

So be proud of those small steps, they really important! :money:

    Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Morning All

    Thanks for the start Ziggy :)

    To the OP asking about children's savings accounts on yesterday's thread. Firstly I would say decide whether you just want a cash account or if you are happy investing money in a stock based vehicle. At the moment the best savings rates are roughly 6% and you can find these easily on money supermarket or the like. However if you are saving now for the long haul and want something stock market linked, I'd recommend having a look at investment trusts, stock tends to do better than cash over a long term period (10years+)

    It's lashing it down here in South London. Just having some toast with Mr Bob's mum's home made orange marmalade. It is so delicious. Going to get soaked cycling to work but at least the roads are quiet at the moment without the school run traffic.

    Have a good day everyone!

    Morning ziggy & Bob :wave: thanks for starting the thread ziggy :D glad you enjoyed the aqua aerobics yesterday and hope you get the call back today!

    Not much on the list today:

    * [STRIKE]visiting a friend who has just had a baby this morning so will probably get her some flowers[/STRIKE] made some twinks hobnobs to take, picked up a bunch of gladioli and took a little baby rattle from the presents stash. Total cost £2 :T
    * all meals from stores - I also have tons in stores! Really need to wind it down! Am quite happy with my attempt at sticking to a GC budget this month. My "month" runs from 22nd-21st (my cc period) and I am £36ish under budget :T Other than milk, bread, fruit & veg we have everything we need so hoping to come under budget for the first time in ages :beer:
    * check meal plan for what's for dinner tonight
    * keep an eye on onepoll/for ms ops
    * list another 4 things minimum on ebay
    * free afternoon activities with dgd. Maybe go on a nature-hunt-for-treasure in the woods if the weather clears up. Definitely do some painting/art - her favourite thing to do
    * plant out pumpkin & beetroot plants
    * get something out of freezer for dinner tomorrow
    * think of some ways to make some extra income!
    * [STRIKE]call energy supplier and change dd date to buy some extra time[/STRIKE]
    * do a load of washing

    Ok that's all I need to do. Have a lovely day everyone x

    Ugh, not the best day. Last month I slipped over my balance on my credit card. This morning, my interest was added plus another over-limit fee, which has pushed me over my limit again. Stupid stupid. I have therefore dipped into my debt savings to pay it off + £50. This means I won't be paying off my Barclays OD this month as I had hoped :(

    Client still hasn't paid me, despite saying he would by the end of the weekend, and is now on holiday until next week.

    I still have a sinus infection. I cannot hear properly out of one ear and feel totally unbalanced.

    Back to the brightside though:

    :starmod: [STRIKE]Pay off £50 from Barclaycard balance[/STRIKE] - 0.3% closer to my target
    :starmod: [STRIKE]Budget £9.60 for work lunches for the next few weeks[/STRIKE]
    :starmod: [STRIKE]Do Polls[/STRIKE] £39.75 so close, just [strike]25p to go. That's 1-3 surveys![/strike] [strike]15p to go![/strike] 5P AWAY ARE YOU KIDDING ME
    :starmod: [STRIKE]Request cash from Quidco[/STRIKE] £22.82 coming my way
    :starmod: [STRIKE]Monitor healthcare refund I'm due[/STRIKE] £36 coming my way
    :starmod: [strike]Eat lunch bought yesterday[/strike] did buy an extra smoothie for £1.50
    :starmod: Redraft back pieces for my dress
    :starmod: [strike]Cook chilli or spag bol for dinner (all from stores)[/strike] ate too many crisps that OH brought home so we're just grazing for tonight instead.

    Was going to be a NSD but I need to go and buy some tablets to update my drugbag in the bathroom! Sinus relief, ibuprofen and paracetamol is what I want in the house so I don't have to worry when it comes around again.

    Morning all!

    I managed another NSD yesterday! That's two in a row! Already had to spend some money today but I knew that would be the case.

    And OH cancelled the sky channel!

    Still keep feeling a bit light headed after my blood donation yesterday! Everything was fine until I went to stand up then really thought I was going to pass out! Nurses were great though and made the most of the snacks!

    Today I have/will:-
    * Check banks
    * Check PayPal
    * Take lunch to work
    * Add on wombled Mr T points
    * Check FPL
    * Earn more on OnePoll
    * Pop to bank to pay in money OH owed me if it's not raining
    * Dinner from stores
    * Possibly go for a run if I feel up to it
    * Sweep stairs
    * Tidy bedroom
    * More crochet

    Think that's everything for now! Hope you all have a good day!
    Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
    Current debt - £5,100
    Total paid off - £10,500.89 (67% paid off)
  • Main thing is to buy lunch today and NOTHING else.

    In other news, today is the deadline Barclaycard set themselves to deal with my PPI claim. Hoping to get home to a letter.
