are shortcuts slowing me down?

I have about 30 shortcuts on my desktop or all my fav websites, could this be slowing my laptop down? I've just been given an older lower spec laptop for my kids and it's faster than mine! how do I find out whats slowing it down?

They would only slow it down when starting up. Website favourites should really be stored in Internet Explorer or Firefox so you don't have to keep going to the Desktop. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to bring up Task Manager to see which processes are using the most CPU. How much RAM does it have?

Yeah, in Internet Explorer save a website to favourites rather than having a desktop shortcut icon.

To check how much RAM you have right-click on MY COMPUTER and select PROPERTIES. Under the GENERAL tab you should see some system information that include RAM amongst other things (Processor type, speed, Operating System details etc)

Yes, go to the site you want then click the 'plus-star' icon to add it to your favourites.

Right-click My Computer - Properties - General tab to find out how much RAM you have.

PLenty. It's probably got more to do with all the pre-installed rubbish running in the background.

Are you using Norton at all?

    I think you need this:

    http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/download

    - does what it says - gives you the option to remove the preinstalled c**p that comes with most systems - plus it's free.
