Extend range of Wifi to garden

I would like to use my computer and mobile phone in the garden but it is out of the range of my wifi. My router is Thomson ST585 v7 which was provided by Plusnet 5 years ago.
Is it possible to extend the signal range without needing very technical knowledge. Not being a techie I don't know to do this so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

You could try using high gain usb wireless adapter.
Something like this...

move the router?Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0

Is that just a router or a router/modem combo? I'd be tempted to replace the router with one that has a decent range.0

There are a number of things you could try:
1. Move the router to provide better coverage in the garden
2. Run an Ethernet cable from your router to a wireless access point (or spare router) that will cover your garden
3. Use a wireless repeater (doesn't require a wired connection to your router, but will increase latency)
4. Use a high-gain aerial (if the one on your router is removable)0 -

Dodgy!
Does anyone really use unencrypted wifi networks these days, or have you cracked their security?0 -
Don't Wireless Repeater's half the data transmission rate which is not very good if you have slowish internet speeds?
Is using a spare router as an extender a viable option?0 -
Ring PlusNet up and tell them your old router isn't performing and ask for a new one - I did this when I renewed, didn't even have to haggle to get it free, although they did say they'd charge for delivery (but never did). I did renew for 2 year deal though. The newer model isn't particularly all singing and dancing, but it improved my wi-fi coverage significantly - previously had weak signal upstairs, but now good signal.
esuhl - my neighbour's wi-fi network is unencrypted - used to borrow it when I was up in the games room (before I got a newer router). He's a twonk though, so gets what he deserves.0 -
Ask Plus Net to provide a 5gz router. You will need a 5gz network card in your laptop. If it hasn't got one (check on your manufacturers website for info) you can buy a USB one for instance
