Not tyres but you've just reminded me of the company car drivers in the 90s who would suddenly plan driving holidays to Scotland come the end of the tax year to get their mileage up above 18k.
reminds me of the days of Post Office Telegrams when the telegram delivery boys rode BSA Bantam motor bikes. You would see them with their front wheel up against a wall burning out the clutch so they could get a new bike. You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0 -

I knew them all, the other 30 kids (yeah, even in the halcyon days of yore, class sizes were over 30) didn't know any of them, and apart from that one lesson they were never mentioned.
We were taught (late 70s/early 80s) about the imperial measures and how they related to metric (so 1cm was 2/5 of an inch etc etc). We had a few lessons around this and were even examined as I recall.
But what we weren't taught were the (at times frankly silly) relationships between the imperial measures. All this 14lb in a stone etc etc. It took me quite a while before I had all these memorised (self-taught effectively).
To this day I find myself measuring in metres and inches (within the same measurement at times!).0 -
I use imperial measurements daily and will be teaching using them tomorrow. Because I am involved in the printed circuit board industry where a lot of the components are still using imperial measurements.
To me it's just a measurement system, be it 0.1" or 2.54mm it's the same distance.0
