Building Regulations and Fire Doors

As part of a garage conversion, we left the garage door and part of the garage (8ft x 8ft) as a storage area. This is accessed from the converted garage and so we used the existing fire door from the original build (1989). Even though its not used as garage, building regulations wants 30 minute fire door in place. How can I prove its 30 minute door or do i just put a new door on ? Not a standard size ! ....HELP ??

Alter the opening to fit a standard 30 minute firecheck door. The old style firecheck doors had a coloured "plug" in one edge of the door which showed if it was 30min or 60min firecheck door. These often got painted over or filled and painted so you could look for it on the side of the door but Building control may still want a new one.ShowUsTheMoney wrote: »As part of a garage conversion, we left the garage door and part of the garage (8ft x 8ft) as a storage area. The ones now have a sticker on the top which should not be removed, difficult if the door needs planing to the shape of the lining.
What is the width and height of the existing lining?0 -
HI Leveller....door has been painted several times but just got out a scraper : ) and on the hinged side there looks like something that is a round yellow/green circle with a red circle inside. Any ideas ? ....and the door size is approx. 1935 x 755 mm0

http://www.firesafe.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/docs/bwfcolcod.pdf just found out about the old style colour plugs. I have the yellow circle with red dot inside which looks like it denotes a 30 minute door .....would this be acceptable to building control ??0

It may be acceptable , best to phone and ask the building inspector. They may say it needs to be a new ones as this would conform to the latest standard.0

Thanks for the advice. Would never have found the "plug" unless you mentioned it. Will give the building inspector a call tomorrow. It's been 8 years since they last came out, so can't imagine they will be that lenient but here's hoping .0
