Hi,
Had to get rid of my L reg Disco (had it for 6 yrs, ran on cooking oil, loved it).
Gone and bought myself something quick/local (07 Vauxhall Vectra £3000) and while it is in good condition/goes well, etc. it is just too small/awkward.
I am 6'5" age 64, bad back and getting in and out of the bloody thing is a pain. I have to practically lay on the floor and lever myself in holding the top of the w/screen. Getting out is worse. I have been used to 'stepping' in to older Range Rovers (though no head room) and Disco's and found the Disco ideal. But I want to leave Land Rovers as a thing of the past. Rot, oil leaks, I am too old for all that.
I see lots of decent sized cars but really don't know what to be looking at. I'm not worried about boot size, passengers, speed, or even economy/insurance particularly. I want a fair size/chunky looking.... 'SUV' type thing, not car looking. Was looking at a Kia Sportage before I bought the Vaux. That sort of thing/shape.
Price ? Well have never spent more tham £4k, so say £6k and treat myself. A few years old, petrol. I suppose a Car Warehouse type place with loads of motors lined up would be a good place to start/'try for size' (There is one in Cannock Staffs I think called.....?)? Anyone of my size/age will appreciate the problem and if you are one of those, or not, prehaps you could give me a few ideas of what to look at. Thanks

I have a mitsubishi sport 2.5 diesel. Even has sidesteps. Seems pretty reliable so far (bound to be more so than a disco <g>) Also consider a Kia sorrento, - been "what towcar" of the year several times as I recall. At that price point I would never consider buying from a dealer. For sure go and look at some, then buy privately once you have decided on what you want.0

Less than 6K, few years old, SUV style, doesn't come up with many options.
Either have to go very high mileage or older
Might have to travel the country to get one depending on where you are.
Nissan Qashqai can be had for under £6K
Ford Kuga for between 6 and 7
There's a few Sportage of 2010 ageMortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)
Savings target June 18 - £22,281.99 / £25,0000 -
Subaru Forester0

Should be able to get a decent Nissan X trail for that budget. Not had one myself but know a few that have and they wouldn't change them for the world.0

7 years old is youngest sub £6K. Depends what OP means by 'few' years old. Might have to either change 'few' to 'several' or up the amount you're willing to pay.Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

Although not an SUV, the e11 Nissan Note is very popular with people with bad backs.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)
