Risk of Redunancy - Help

Options
Dear all

Me and the wife was given a letter of 'Risk of redundancy' from work (we both work at the same company). I have been there for 12 years and the wife 10.

We have a 'consultation' meeting bascially pleeing why they should keep us on. A second meeting will take place with a decision will go in our favour or not.

The 3rd meeting we will be given options for OTHER vacancies in the company.

Its obvious that the boss who I know very well doesnt want me and the wife anymore.

Where do I stand?

Can they offer alot lower salary?
Can they just give us a package and be done with it?

To be honest when I joined the company when there was 3 people now theres in excess of 75. I am a little upset.

thanks....

Tim

    That's rough.

Take the time to get your CV sorted, LinkedIn profile updated etc. Ask around your friends to find a decent solicitor who specialises in these things.

You are normally entitled to take a work colleague or union rep into these sorts of things. I found that hugely valuable - she paused the meeting when I got upset, for instance, and helped me work out my next move.
  • Thanks for the kind reply. In a nutshell we think we deserve more money than statutory as we've worked damn hard to build and grow with this company.

However do I have a leg stand on?

In a nutshell - no. You can ask for anything you like, but you have no right to get it. The statutory package is all you must get.

On what basis have they selected you both? Are there others doing the same job as you do?

Yes we're both 'heads' of depts and I have 1 guy under me and we work in parallel. The wife is also the same although she had a few people under her.
