No Claims Discount proof.

Options
Hi all,

I have insured our new car with a company which is asking now for the No Claims Discount proof.
I have always been the main driver and my wife the named driver. But now my wife wants to be the main driver and I will be the named driver. I have been with Halifax for over 4 years and then we moved into Privilege at the beguining of this year. Privilege is saying that we have not been long enough with them to issue this certificate and Halifax is saying that the policy is inactive. Anyone knows who should send me the No claims discount proof for the named driver?

Halifax should issue the confirmation, if you didn't complete your full year of insurance with Privilege.

Speak to them and tell them you know the policy is inactive, you are getting another policy and need the proof of no claims.

    Usually quite easy.

Generally Named drivers don't accumulate no claims discounts, only the policy holder does.

The named driver doesn't get any proof of NCD issued. (Only the policyholder), so your wife so far has nil NCD.

If you were the policyholder who took out the privilege policy, then your NCD was used on that policy.

You cannot use it on another policy in your name.

    To clarify...

You have had one car - insured with Halifax for four years, now part-way through a Privilege policy - with you as the main driver.
You now have a second car - which will be insured with your wife as main driver.

If that's the case, then you will have to insure the second car with zero NCB. Your wife has none, and yours is in use on your current policy.

If you still just have the one car, then you may be able to persuade Privilege to change the car and the main driver on your current policy, rather than cancel it, and they may transfer the NCB from you to your wife - but it's by no means certain.
  • A bit of a pain this is.... many thanks for the responses
