O/S Daily Wednesday 12th August 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, overcast and cloudy, humid too.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit.

Dinner last night was pork steaks, hot buttered and herb new potatoes, broad beans, green beans, pan fried cabbage, peas and gravy. Ice cream for dessert. Tonight I’m not sure what we will be eating as I’m going to the outlaws at 5.45pm to meet DH who will call in there on his way home from work as it’s FIL’s birthday today. I may make a pan of spag bol meat sauce this afternoon, I can then re-heat this whilst the spaghetti is cooking and that could be a quick dinner, when we get home from the outlaws.

Work yesterday was not as busy as Monday but we had some long complicated enquiries. Only working until lunchtime today, then I’ll come home and crack on with the usual chores etc. Everywhere needs a good clean and I have all the holiday washing to either iron or put away – so will crack on with getting stuff done whilst on my days’ off.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,

Wet and drizzly here not sure the event day at work will be on today so it may be quiet again.

Mums for dinner tonight I think its roast beef and all the trimmings I so look forward to that treat on a Wednesday night, I wash up and clean her kitchen through afterwards, so we are both happy.

Good luck to the TA's today I shall be thinking of you, hope all goes well x

Need to do a wash tonight, I got my six months free washing tablets which were advertised when I bought my machine they are Ariel ones and loads of them I think it will last me a good eight months :j

Will have a quick tidy round tonight and start on a shopping list.

    Have good days all xx
  • Morning all,

Thank you nmic for starting us off.

A beautiful morning here, although I understand will change drastically tonight. The WM is on as I thought I would take advantage of today's weather.

I have a nail appointment this morning and Himself will pop up to see DD. Nothing in particular planned for this afternoon but no doubt will find something to do. We are having sausage and mash with onion gravy for our meal this evening.

Tomorrow I am off to W*therspoons with friends so DGD1 will be in charge of the meal for Himself, and I think it is a toss up between pasta and scrambled eggs and bacon.

Dumpling I hope the decorating is going well, and I am sure the girls will take a pride in it because they have done the work themselves. Also it will stand them in good stead when they have their own home.

Gers, hope you are having a wonderful time in Australia.

Hester I hope the children enjoyed their pony rides.

    Have a good day all

    Morning All

Well, I'm back. Last day of the summer holidays here, work tomorrow. Had a fantastic time in Copenhagen, hot weather, great food and company. Got back late Friday night and then went to Yorkshire for a friends 60th birthday party on Saturday. Had a wonderful day with one of my oldest friends on Sunday and came home on Monday.

The house is coming on, the living room is painted and has had the wood floor laid, hall stairs and landing have been plastered and I will get the painter to come when he has time, still a lot of work to do on the stairs which I need to get on with as soon as I can.

TA - You will be in my thoughts today.
Gers - I hope you have a fabulous holiday.
RR - Well done on the washing powder, I wonder how many people don't bother/forget to claim them.
tru - You have come so far with Scampi, maybe a helping hand would be good to give you some pointers for him. He obviously loves you and is a very lucky boy to have you.

DDs sofa is arriving here today, she still doesn't have the keys to her flat, just as well the floor has been laid here!

Managed to cut the grass yesterday but it's damp and miserable so not sure how much of the garden I will get sorted today.

Hugs to those in need. Take care. XX
  • TA, I am sorry, I thought it was Friday you were due back at the hospital. I will be thinking of you both and hoping for the best possible outcome.

I hope DH is feeling a little better, I remember you saying in one of your posts that he wasn't well

    Much love to you both

    Morning :hello:

    Good luck TA xx

My attempts at putting drops into Scampi's eyes three times a day are a bit pathetic, lol. He's not impressed at being held away from his two mates who we always bump into in the mornings :D Had a disastrous walk, he barked madly at every dog. Then to top it off, a bloke zoomed passed us on the path on his bike, inches from Scampi's face, made stupid barking noises then laughed when there was frenzied barking. I wanted to kick him off his bike, but settled on giving him a mouthful instead. He won't be doing it again in a hurry. I know I should've ignored him and concentrated on Scampi, but I was bluddy furious. Felt like crying when I got home.

I've just been chucking water onto the tomatoes in the greenhouse, I really should get in there and do a proper job. I've lost interest lately :undecided I picked more salad leaves, tidied and swept the patio and binned more junk. Then ate chocolate.

Today we WILL have a good walk (must admit I'm tempted not to bother going out, it just seems too difficult at the moment) then I'm going to get going properly in the house. Paperwork has piled up so I'll sort through that first. I have a couple of loads of washing to do, upstairs need vacuuming and our room has become a dumping ground again so I'll sort through it and get it tidied. I have chocolate on standby, ready to rescue me if I have a bad day :D There's wine too.....

  • Morning one and all. Glorious start here too.

I have been MIA a few days as I felt a bit low. I rang the specialist NET nurse in Leeds Monday for advice as I was worried about Mr TA waiting until Friday. Then yesterday morning got a phone call at 8.30 offering us a cancellation at 1.30 if we could make it. You bet we could. Anyway the usual good examination and on to the octreotide scan results. They show the tumours look best responsive to radiotherapy so Mr TA being referred for that. Of course the usual waiting lists. Leeds seems to be the longest so Manchester or Liverpool being considered too. We'll worry about getting there and the overnight stay involved if needs be! I'm Just relieved we know what's what instead of worrying about what might be. So back to the waiting game AGAIN!

So one appointment down and one to go - my waste of time one tomorrow with the urologist re my ongoing UTI/IC problem. We have the DGDs overnight and all day tomorrow so they will have to sit in the waiting room with Mr TA and behave themselves!

Got a phone call from the As*a opticians to say my new specs are ready so must try and get there at some point, I just hope I like them better than the ones I spent a fortune on at B**ts and which are still in the case!!

I hope Mr LW goes on ok at the hospital today. Thinking of you both. (((((HUGS))))) to anyone else in need and GERS enjoy your holiday! Take care all xx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a lovely sunny morning here so far, I haven't looked at the forecast yet but fingers crossed it stays dry.
Dumpling I hope the decorating is going well, and I am sure the girls will take a pride in it because they have done the work themselves. Also it will stand them in good stead when they have their own home

It is going well thank you, I'm so proud of the girls, they have got on with it with not too many arguments surprisingly. DD14 even put together a new double bed frame with a bit of help from DD15 and she also dismantled an old wardrobe and her old bed all on her own. Once they have tidied up, their rooms will look lovely :D.

Today is the day that DD12 has her braces fitted but I don't know if I will be able to take her today as I'm having a bit of a wobble about it. I will ask DD14 if she can go with her but if not I will just have to try and go. If I get a taxi there and back it won't be as bad as trying to use the bus but it's so expensive. My lovely DD12 has waited a long time to have her teeth corrected so I'm just going to have to go aren't I.

This is the day before our shopping comes and the fridge is practically bare. I foresee a bit of moaning "Mum, there's nothing to eat!" We have 2 freezers full of food though so they will have to make a bit of an effort :). I need to amend the shop before it comes as somehow a load of chocolate got added yesterday when I was feeling hungry but common sense has prevailed so I will be taking it back off :rotfl::rotfl:.

I do not know what I will be making for tea yet till I check the freezer, probably something chickeny though, I still have loads from musclefood in one of the drawers.

Well, I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Edited to add that I've just seen your post TravellingAbuela and I want to say that I hope and pray Mr TA's treatment will start quickly and be effective. I wish you the strength to support him and to look after yourself too xxxxx

    Afternoon / morning everyone.

Brisbane is a beautiful city, it's changed so much since I was last here.

Today is a public local holiday so almost everything is closed, including newsagents and coffee shops. To add to that a huge storm raged through this afternoon. Rumbling thunder and rain. Can't believe the bad weather has followed me! My sister in law is still stuck on her plane at Brisbane airport. They had an aborted landing and are now waiting it out on the apron as ground crew aren't being allowed near it. Dinner could be delayed tonight.

Last night I had dinner with one of my nephews who has matured into a lovely chap. So far so good, one down four to go.

TA - it's so goo to hear your news about OH. It's been a difficult time all round and hopefully the next treatment will work.

Camelot - back to school already? The hols go so quickly.

At home we can be plagued by seagulls in some places, here the bird menace is the ibis. Huge curved beak and very annoying to pedestrians.

It's now 5.15 here and the wine is almost at a perfect temperature.

    Happy Wednesday everyone.

Already 26 in the shade and i have a headache. So today's moun tain hike has had to be canned. Did some stuff in the veg garden earlier-lifted potatoes and transplanted kale.

Tru....that cyclist  with all the work you are putting in as well! Don't let it get you down. Why not aim for just one or two of that huge todo list and a little walk with Scampi. Have you a neighbour you can just take him round for a short visit?

I am thinking of all you with health issues yourselves or with loved ones.
  • Good Morning everyone, overcast here and has been (and still is) much too warm and humid overnight, neither of us slept much so quite jaded today as a result. Two cats had a very noisy dispute on the patio under our window at 3 this morning too which didn't help much either.

TA glad the news was better than you were expecting and that action can be taken, relief all round.

TRU Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr! some people are taking stupid to new heights, and should have an MA in incondiserate and unacceptable behaviour. I'd have been soooooo furious. Well done on being restrained enough to NOT push him off his bike pet. Give Scampi a hug from me and he can give you one in return, not his fault, not your fault, onwards and upwards for both of you.

Going to do as much as I can that needs doing in the house and garden today, tomorrows forecast looks quite daunting with the storms shown virtually over us for most of the day and I'm a little concerned that we might lose the power. We're prone to a flickery supply anyway being at the end of the line as it were, it all stops here because of the river. I'm going to do the cooking for a couple of meals today as I have a camping stove and gas cylinder to reheat them if I need it. We're forecast copious amounts of rain and I'm glad we're some 10 feet above road level so ought to be OK if there is localised build up of run off water, we'll see won't we?

Have yourselves a nice day everyone, Lyn xxx.
