Scottish Power billing

Options
Hello,

I lived in a flat with my boyfriend from 24th February 2014 - 24th November 2014.
Scottish Power were the service provider for gas and electric, and our Estate agent sent them our meter readings when we moved into the flat. The whole time that we were there, we never received a bill from them. My boyfriend and I split up and decided to get out of our tenancy early and I moved home with my mum, and so I got onto Scottish Power and asked them to prepare an account for me so that I could have the final meter readings sent to them when we moved out and then I could pay it off.
We moved out, estate agent sent Scottish Power our final meter readings.
Scottish Power send me a bill with estimated readings at the start and finish of our tenancy which totalled to over £600. The estimate on both meters was lower than the actual at the start of the tenancy and higher than the actual at the end of the tenancy.
I contacted them to complain and asked for a correct bill with actual readings.
They claimed they never received the readings.
I sent them the meter readings.
New bill comes through with actual meter readings for the end of the tenancy, and estimated for the start. This was December.
I asked to be put through to their complaints department. They emailed to say they would be in touch.
Nothing for months.
Then I get an email reminder that I need to pay my overdue bill or they will send debt collectors. I complained again and asked for my bill with actual meter readings.
They re-did it with estimated readings.
I complained again and they ignored me.
I received another reminder in June and I complained to that again, they told me that I would be referred to their complaints department and once again I have heard nothing.
I want to move out again in the next month or two, and have a potentially massive bill over my head from a company that continue to mess me around and ignore me.

I read somewhere before that if a company does not correctly bill you within a year of the usage, they are not allowed to claim it. Does anyone know if this is true?

I don't know what to do :(

Any help would be greatly appreciated

There is a back billing principle which states: "If your supplier is at fault, it will not seek additional payment for unbilled energy used more than 12 months prior to the error being detected and a corrected bill being issued."

SP have implemented this principle via a back billing code, details can be found here:
