My girlfriend has a convertible that doesn't get used during the winter months and in true MSE style is looking to reduce her car tax bill.
The tax runs out at the end of this month so would the most cost-effective option be to renew for 12 months then declare SORN at the end of next month so getting 11 months refund.
Then buy 12 months car tax again in say April next year and again declare SORN at the end of next September. Are there any issues with repeatedly SORNing and renewing car tax?

Out of curiosity - why doesnt she use it during the winter?
I've had various convertibles and used them all year round.0 -

Great thanks, it seemed a little too easy to be true but good news that it is.Out of curiosity - why doesnt she use it during the winter?
She's the most "nesh" woman I've ever known; first thing she does in any car is turn on the heated seats regardless of the temperature outside! So even with heated neck blowers on the convertible it'd be far too cold for her to have the top down in winter. :-)Every generation blames the one before...

So long as she's keeping it off the public highway, I should've said! But I'm sure you know that anyway!Je suis Charlie.0 -

Seems to be a general female trait. They walk around outside with a jacket & top that are too short, exposing a strip of bare flesh from waist to sternum (if my shirt came untucked at the back, even for a minute I'd be laid up for a week with a chill in the kidneys ) yet the second they get in the car they turn the heater up to the point that my head is about to explode. I've never got a satisfactory reasonI want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

You dont need to drive with the hood down during the winter. Just keep it up.
We've had various convertibles - Mr2 mk3, MX5s, MGTFs, BMW z4s and all of them have been all year round cars.
Does she have another car for the winter?0 -

Of course, our fun cars are normally garaged over winter.the second they get in the car they turn the heater up to the point that my head is about to explode.
I feel for you! That's why I'm very happy that our 'posh' cars have multi-zone temperature settings. The only time I get caught out is the odd occasion she borrows my car and the next time I get in I suddenly feel my backside getting warm because she's left the heated seat switched on! Grrr.
I must confess though that I do take advantage of the heated steering wheel on bitterly cold mornings... jeeez, I must be getting old.Every generation blames the one before...

Yes, she has a Range Rover for winter time; we live in a rural area so it's a lot more sensible anyway for wet, muddy roads even before the temperature issue is taken into consideration.Every generation blames the one before...
