ESA and income tax!

My husband has finally been awarded ESA in the support group, but we also got (very quickly!) a letter from HM revenue and customs saying they were going to adjust his income tax code to allow for the fact that he was now receiving ESA - unfortunately they are assuming he is receiving £4969 per year! :eek:
He's actually receiving £2200 and is now too sick in hospital to contact them - so I tried phoning- after a 35minute wait message, I decided I must write to them I suppose.
Just really wanted to flag up to others that this may happen!

Esa support group is about £110 a week, how comes his only getting £40ish.0

He has a small occupational pension which they take into account when working out the payment.0

Thats why then. Contributions based benefits are taxable, same as pensions.
He wont pay tax as his under the limit.0
