I have banked with Santander for almost 30 years, over that time my husband and myself have had various loans, credit agreements and credit cards with goodness only knows how many companies, and for everything ranging from cars to sofas. I no longer have any paperwork on these accounts. I rang Santander to see if they could look and see if I have ever paid ppi on any of them, they said they can only investigate Santander accounts, is there any way that I can find out for myself or am I better off going to a no win no fee claim company? any advice appreciated

Do you have any recollection of who the various loans etc. were with and who arranged them eg. car loans - did you arrange the finance yourself or was it arranged by the dealer. You'll be more or less wasting your time if the loans were pre regulation and arranged by a firm that did not come under any regulatory bodies at the time.0

The suite was from DFS so whoever arranged their finance, one car the finance was definitely black horse, but we have had credit cards from egg, virgin, Halifax, Santander ........... don't know when though
and I know that whenever we have been asked if we wanted ppi we have said no but some could have been sold to us without being given a choice!

NWNF companies have no more information than you do. If you wish to pursue what appears to be a very weak claim you'll need to contact each of the lenders separately.0
-
And if the accounts are closed you will need to send a SAR and £10 to each company to see what's left.
This is not a guarantee there will be though so consider that before you send any.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
So these companies that say it is simple are basically liars? Because how would anyone remember every loan or credit card company they gave ever had?0

Sort of.
Claims companies will rely on people being able to remember things like who the loan/credit card was with, when it was taken, account numbers etc.
With this information they then approach the various businesses and hope for the best. Some companies have arrangements with businesses where they just send a spreadsheet with the above details for various people and the business replies saying who had PPI and who didn't.
As for your main question:
Things like your car loan and DFS loan - probably not worth bothering if they were taken out before January 2005.
The credit cards - you'll have to approach each business to ask if you had PPI. Many businesses are quite good at just telling you without you needing to make a subject access request.0 -
Of course they are liars. They don't have access to any information that you don't give them.
But, returning to your original posts why do you seem to think that you have ever paid PPI? You say that whenever you have been asked if you wanted PPI you have declined. Claims that PPI may have been added without your knowlege are a load of !!!!!!!!, this would have been detailed on the paperwork which you signed, copies of which were given to you.
Also, in the case of credit cards, any PPI payable would have been itemised separately on every single monthly statement. You would surely have spotted this and queried the position at some point over the past 30 years.0 -

But what if they are claiming under mis-selling? Then they would be entitled. I applied for a Capital One Card and told them I wad self-employed, yet they rang me up and sold me PPI even though I'd never be able to Claim as self employment was excluded.0 -
Why would you expect Santander to know if you paid PPI on a Halifax card?
You need to contact each of your lenders. You can do a SAR which will then give you the information you need, one to each lender. Then when you know which ones had PPI you can make your complaints. Look at the PPI how to guides on MSE and it will take you through the steps.0
