Flights are getting cheaper, from Manchester - LaGuardia US Airways are doing fares for around £222... and US Airways is a better airline that Zoom

Shouldn't this be in the in the New York Thread?! *grins*

i'd argue us airways being better than zoom - i fly regularly to the states and canada, and have always had top class, leave-on-time service from zoom, and the food is great too. however i have had nothing but substandard service from us airways. maybe with zoom i've been one of the lucky ones, and one of the unlucky ones with us airways, but either way this offer is ridiculously cheap. new york here i come!

  • I flew with Zoom on that route in both Economy and Premium Economy. The flight itself was absolutely fine (although the leg room in economy wasn't so great).

However, the big warning is the delays. We were delayed by two hours at Gatwick which meant that we were really pushing it in time to make our connecting flight. The response we got from the Zoom staff ranged from being sympathetic to the contracted Zoom ground staff shrugging their shoulders and saying "There's no way you're going to make that connecting flight!" (How about that for positivity?) The delay with Zoom was because the aircraft was having work done to it at Luton.

We believe that a young family missed their connection on the same flight as us. We only made it because we are both young and reasonably fit for the sprinting off the plane and were quite forceful when it came to getting to the front of the plane so that we could be one of the first to disembark. We feel that the Zoom staff could have asked the other passengers to remain seated so that the passengers with pre-booked connecting transport could get off the plane first. Leave at least 5-6 hours between flight arrival/check-in time when you are getting connecting flights (The 3.5 hours we left just wasn't enough).

When we were running late with checking in to the Zoom return flight due to a 2.5 hour delay with Jet Blue, the Zoom check in staff were lovely! We made it by about 3 minutes and they were very calming and gave us a few minutes to recover from the marathon run we had to do, before checking us in.

The key thing is to allow plenty of time for contingencies, it will prevent the total stress out you feel when you spend the entire journey worrying about whether you'll make the next flight or not!

yours is a good example of why people who need to interconnect feel forced to book interlined tickets with the same airline...it all becomes a bit of a nightmare.
  • Yep! We both said "never again, next time we go direct!" We saved £200 each by using two different airlines but then, if we'd have missed that flight, it would have cost us at least £500 each extra to get home!

That's another warning, we both had what we thought was good insurance but the small print said that we weren't covered for missing connecting flights!
  • Hi

We've flown with Zoom 4 times now from Gatwick/Vancouver.

Our flights were always on time or thereabouts and the staff were extremely attentive throughout every flight, the service (drinks, meals, snacks etc was non-stop, in fact the poor staff never seemed to rest!) the meals were of decent quality too.

But, be warned that the in-flight entertainment isn't up to much!

Would definitely fly with Zoom again and intend to very shortly (hopefully!)

"For an extra £90 you can opt for a seat upgrade, with a whopping 36" legroom."

I very much doubt that's the case. I suspect Martin means you get a seat pitch of 36" rather than legroom. That's only about 4" more than most airlines' economy seat pitch.

My biggest concern with Zoom is if they have technical difficulties. If a AA or BA flight can't fly (and it happens) they have other flights to transfer passengers onto and agreements with other carriers....anything else is much of a muchness flying economy unless you fly enough to qualify for frequent flyer extras.
