Hi ppl
One of my mates is looking for some cheap(er) flights to Kurdistan for his holiday.
Flying from London to Erbil (EBL) on 10th March returning 10th April.
Can anyone find me a decent deal to pass onto him.
Best price he has is £886 with Austrian !!!!!
Cheers

Unfortunately Erbil is not flush with carriers getting there, the only airlines I can find actively flying are Austrian & Mahan (from Tehran).
Obviously Austrian, with a European monopoly, filling up with government bureacrats, aid & oil workers charge a premium, and your fare is about the cheapest Austrian offer. They hardly need to run specials, as you either need to get to Erbil or you don't - it's hardly a last minute holiday destination. It's also the kind of monopoly I can't imagine Ryanair breaking anypoint soon,
Royal Jordanian pretend to fly there - I don't see any evidence, but they might be holding back seats from sale for security measures. Give their UK office a call and find out if they do actually fly.0 -
Unusual holiday destination! Does he have a time-share there?
Perhaps he could fly to another country in the region and travel overland: there are cheap flights to Antalya (Turkey) and the distance from there is not absurd.0 -
A dodge he might try: you can 'buy' flights on Austrian using 'Miles and More' points. And these fares are by region, rather than extra high for an expensive destination. And you can buy such miles for cash: although you get more miles per pound if you buy a case of wine from one of their partners and get miles as a sweetener for the deal. (You would then have the problem of disposing of the wine, but maybe I could help with that!)0

This is not a recommendation - more a google search - occasional charter flights from Frankfurt or Amsterdam? http://www.rozatravel.com/0
