How long from now for Tax credits?

Hi everyone
I 1st made the call to tax credits to apply on 3rd July and I have filled out and returned my pack etc 2 weeks ago
Yesterday I recieved a text saying it will be up to 3 weeks to process.
In experience does it usually take that long? also can anyone tell me if they will backdate it to when I first called as its taking them a while, I have returned everything within 24 hours, but it took 4 weeks just for the form to come!
