Where to live in Mitcham/Croydon?

I did want to move further west, eg Sutton area, but I seem to be constantly outbid on properties, so I have decided to spread the net a bit further. Mitcham and Croydon both seem to be a bit cheaper. Ideally I need somewhere with an easy-ish commute into London although currently I work near the M25 and commute by car.…

I love these threads about where to live in London. Don't live here, don't live there. If these areas are so horrible why do people pay £500,000 for a small house?

I was born and brought up in Streatham, which was posh in the 50s and 60s but now live at the coast in the north west. The only thing I miss about London is going to see Crystal Palace every other week.
