If she's old enough, and responsible enough, to drive a car then she should also take on the responsibility of sorting out her own financing.

Failing that, she should ask her parents to help.

I wouldn't charge interest BUT what happens if you decide to dump her in a couple of weeks time?

My experience is they don't like getting offloaded, especially if they ever see you with your latest FOM.

If she owed you money she could try to get awkward.

I wouldn't charge interest. Actually I would tell her to go and ask the bank!

Lots of this on Judge Rimmer. Bottom line is: don't lend people money.

Are you surprised that a show about small claims is full of people making small claims?

IF you're happy that the money will be paid back (or you're can afford to lose it and are willing to take the risk) then loan her the money. Do not charge interest though, anything you gain from that would lose you more in goodwill further down the line.
Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly "Go on, do deformed rabbit again.....it's my favourite". © Terry Pratchett in "Small Gods"

HMRC would be interested if you are making money from a loan. Give her the money and be done with it man.

A boyfriend once asked me to take out a £17k loan so that he could buy a car. I declined as I just knew that it could lead to trouble. At the time I could have easily got a loan for that much, but he had a bad credit record and couldn't . Although his earnings were good and he coud have paid me back each month I just didn't feel comfortable about it. He wasn't happy that I said no and it did cause a row but I knew it was the right thing to do . 2 years later we did split up,and if I had lent him the money I would never have got the rest of it back.
  • Don't do it

A responsible adult should be able to sort out their own finances
  • I think you should lend her the money and not charge interest. I mean she is your girlfriend!

I would not be lending the money.A car can cost a few £........
We have had our fingers burnt lending our own family money. Never to be seen again!
I give requests a lot of thought and give what I can and that is it.
Family mean alot but a girlfriend can walk away.
