I have been reading on this topic too, I read that early morning wakes up are your way of protecting yourself so you don't enter Into rem sleep again.
Best thing I read was that positive experiences increase serotonin levels whereas negative introspection reduces levels. I have been doing far too much of the latter.

Sorry you're feeling a bit carp. I always find this time of year to be particularly tiring, my mum always says its to do with the lack of light etc.
Hope you are managing to get some rest but also time outdoors. It's so hard starting a new job where everything is done differently, but it will seem more natural in a few weeks.
