One of the reasons I thought of supermarket work was despite being retail, I would have expected them to get the shelves rejuvenated on the bank holidays and therefore increase the pay and not have to deal with the general public as the shop would be shut while you were working.

Incidentally, I have now found out that you can not drive a 7.5t lorry on a B+E entitlement. You would need a C entitlement which costs about £1500 to achieve. Shame, I liked the sound of that.

I've never worked retail, but my sister has, and she always stayed back late on Christmas Eve to do the shelf-filling, preparing for the sales.

Also, remember if a supermarket is closed Boxing Day and re-opens of the 27th, this year that is a Sunday. Far cheaper to get staff in early on Sunday, than pay BH rates.

    Will they?
Not in all my years as a chef.

Don't know about a salaried chef, but in my time as a waitress and bar staff, we've always been paid at least double time (some jobs + lieu time).

Most supermarkets shut on Christmas Day and the set up for Boxing Day is done late night Christmas Eve therefore no additional premium paid. You usually get. Premium for Bank Holidays bearing in mind this year December 26th is not a Bank Holiday (BH will be Monday 28tg instead) and you'd be unlikely to get a premium for that either.

I'm a support worker and we get double time Christmas Day and time and a half New Years day. I once worked as an online shopper for Sainsburys which was really good, a little more as it was night work but I would happily do it again
