Hi,
I am looking to find a way of taking advantage of the Christmas rush this year and wondered if anyone here had any suggestions for highish paying jobs over the Christmas period.
I am willing to work over nights and also the Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing day, New Years eve, New Years day too so was thinking of supermarket work, picking and packing, post office temps etc, but you good people may be able to make other suggestions of who would pay the best wages.
Looking forward to hearing from you,

If you have the 7.5 entitlement on your driving license, might be worth looking at the delivery/logistics side. They can't get enough drivers, usually sees you through to the New Year.
Vans pay less, but multi drop if you want to put the hours in, is OK.0 -
RoyalMail Christmas temp jobs will go LIVE in September.
They have morning, day, night shifts to choose. And a lot of people do that including myself.
And I think its best. Work is easy no pressure on you as they recruit hundreds and they all work in teams.
I am talking about Mail Centres. Find your local mail centre and apply in well before time as soon as the jobs go live.
Then you get to choose from wide time frames. And you start as early as end October til first week of January.0 -
That could coincide well with what I want to do, and I am about to go for my B+E license too!
Any idea what I could expect the hourly rate is for the driving jobs and the sorting jobs? How much would you expect to make overall for your stint in the build up to Christmas?0 -
Silver service always paid well that time of the year.0

My first job was a temp for royal mail doing data entry.
£8 an hour on a saturday and £12 an hour on a sunday... what was about 12 years ago! I did 2 days work and was earning what my mates got for doing a weeks work.
I even managed to do it hungover most days.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Might be an idea to pop over to trucknet to see what the lads and lasses there reckon you can earn over Xmas. I'd be guessing a bit too much!
Definitely not for the faint-hearted though;)0 -
I've sometimes taken a temp xmas job to bring in a few extra pennies on top of working a full-time 9 to 5 office job. We have a big shopping centre in Sheffield and they usually start advertising for extra xmas retail and warehouse staff in September but the jobs are normally minimum wage so given that I'm in my 30's, I was rejected quite a lot as it's cheaper to get in young staff.
If you go for retail jobs, be prepared to endure snotty management that treat you like children, endless hours of xmas music on a loop and rude customers.
Some personal highlights for me, were in BHS, I was expected to dress up in a giant dog outfit and stand at the front of the store to promote stuffed toys....this suit had been worn by every other member of staff and was sweaty and FILTHY, and I had teenagers trying to pull the head of the outfit. They then started to get us to trick people into buying store credit cards disguised as loyalty cards. I didn't stay there very long!
Then in NEXT, someone set fire to the changing room curtains in order to shoplift and we had to force customers out of the doors because they still wanted to shop even though the store was on fire!
Mortgage free in Feb 2028!0 -
If you are willing to work Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day then retail is going to limit you with whether they are open or not (Debenhams make you take it as your regular day off). I would recommend looking for pub or restaurant work, as they will pay at least double time on the BH.0

Will they?
Not in all my years as a chef.0 -
One of the reasons I thought of supermarket work was despite being retail, I would have expected them to get the shelves rejuvenated on the bank holidays and therefore increase the pay and not have to deal with the general public as the shop would be shut while you were working.
Incidentally, I have now found out that you can not drive a 7.5t lorry on a B+E entitlement. You would need a C entitlement which costs about £1500 to achieve. Shame, I liked the sound of that.0
