Scotland and the BPA

The BPA's Monday Mucus this week is calling for the same private parking feeding frenzy in Scotland as we now have in England. Or, as the BPA puts it, "we are keen to ensure that parking on private land is managed properly, effectively and yet fairly in Scotland."
Yeah, just like it is in England.
A bit further down we discover what it is they really want: "we believe this involves the introduction of keeper liability of a kind seen in the Protection of Freedoms Act in England and Wales."

Doesn't seem terribly likely when the Scottish courts are in the process of prosecuting one of the BPA's own members for fraud.

Wonder how he'll sell this? Reduction in the current 3,000,000,000 court cases that currently happen in Scotland each year?
Removal of existing carmageddon blatantly and clearly in place today?Je Suis Cecil.0 -
Given that the Scottish Courts have declared wheel clamping to constitute "Extortion and Theft" I wonder what chance there is that this mob of ex-clampers will be allowed to operate up here like they do down south.
I suspect the chances are as high as Alex Salmond declaring himself to be a proud Englishman0 -
Last year I spent two weeks in Scotland, 1500 miles. Last week I did another 500 miles. Their current system of parking control works just fine. Absolutely none whatsoever in all the car parks we used. Even paying for parking is a rarity.
It is probably because in the quieter areas the Councils and local businesses know where their custom comes from and money in local businesses is better than empty High Streets.0 -
As a Scottish resident I would confirm that it is absolute carmageddon in Scotland. Often when arriving at a car park there would only be 200-300 spaces free meaning it can take hours to choose between the available options.
This seriously affected my blogging ability as I would have to drive 4-5 hours to England to find a car park with enforcement in place to blog about.
I cannot understand why Scottish landowners fail to put enforcement in place just because most motorists park responsibly. Even if only one person a year abuses a car park, that person should be caught, flagellated, their car crushed and posted at their expense to be used as landfill at the IAS headquarters.Hi, we’ve approved your signature. I have to agree with PP. Here in Perth it's so bad that the local MP has had to break off from trying to justify a second referendum in order to take on Not so Smart.0

Definitely carmageddon here. Someone parked in my space in the train station this morning, so I had to park in one of the 100 empty ones next to it. They need hanged.0
