Following advice from here I signed up to the GE Money card which gives a very useful 3% cashback on petrol and food shopping.
Or at least it did!
Had a letter yesterday saying that the card will be discontinued from 14 November.
Oh, well, it was good while it lasted!
Any other offers out there?

Just got my letter this morning.
Ah well, I've still got my Capital One Circle card giving 1%0 -
Same here
Highly intelligent of GE - get all the highest credit scorers in the UK and put them off your company for life by wasting their time with a credit card that closes down within a year
cheers GE0 -

Gisted Quote from their letter re: "Food and Fuel" Everyday Card.
This card is being discontinued and all existing GE Money EveryDay Card accounts are being closed" From November 14th 2007 you will no longer be able to use your card.0 -
Can't really say they've wasted anyone's time, I got 3 times as much cashback as I would have got on my Egg Money card. Would have been better if it carried on at 3%, but at least they're being up front rather than just dropping cashback and burying it in small print.
Any ideas on the best cashback card to replace them, or is 1% about the best cashback rate around at the moment?
Edit: Just noticed Barclaycard have a cashback card giving 2% on food and petrol. Any better offers than this around?0 -
The Barclcard one is for new customers only. I have Visa and Mastercards which I haven't used for years.
A plan .......... cancel the "old" cards, use GE until November and then apply for Capitol One, use for three months and then apply for Amex. After three months I would then class myself as a new customer.
I rang the Barclaycard "Customer Service" number to tell them I wanted a cashback card and to cancel my existing cards and the b*tch hung up on me! Never even took my card number.0 -
I agree, at least they are being upfront. I guess it is spend all we can now in the next couple of months on food and fuel. Hope by November another card provider will come up with another good deal.0

I'm really going to miss the GE Money card. We used it a lot and reaped 3% cashback on 95% of our purchases. I received £125 cashback from this card back in June making it around £400+ cashback in total.
I have a Barclaycard, which was my first ever credit card which I got while at uni (they were offering a free £50 for all applications). I am seriously tempted to cancel the Barclaycard now, as I haven't used it for a couple of years. In 3 or 6 months I would be classed as a "new customer" so could apply for the Barclaycard Platinum Cashback card.
I'll use the GE Money card right up to the 14th November, but will apply for the Capital One card in October so that I should have it by the time the GE card account is closed. Please call me 'Kazza'.0 -
