Connecting TV/Sound System/Blu Ray

Hi, I recently splashed out on a new TV and sound base. At the same time I upgraded my virgin box from the old V+ to TiVo. I managed to set it up with no problems. It is my new Blu Ray player that has complicated things.

My TV has 4 HDMI slots and my sound base also has 4.

I have an HDMI cable from the TiVo box > TV
I also have an HDMI cable from the sound base > arc HDMI on the TV

When I bought the Blu Ray player I used a HDMI to connect it to the TV. I was getting a picture, but no matter what I did I couldn't get any sound from either the TV speakers or the Sound Base.

I then tried connecting the Blu Ray player directly to the Sound Base with the HDMI cable instead. This works, I can get a sound and picture. The problem is that when I turn the Blu Ray player off and go back to TIVO, I have to turn the sound base on and off again for it to work. It is a bit of a pain and makes me think I must have messed up somewhere.

Is there a better way to connect these 4 things?
I'd be grateful for any advice : )

    Are there any settings on the blu ray player which auto switches off the sound system? My LG sound bar has the option to turn off my tv, (single control option?) but my Tv is an LG as well. Just a thought.
  • Thanks. I tried playing around with the blu ray audio settings. There are three options - auto, PCM and DTS Re-Encode.

    Still no sound at all unless I plug the HDMI cable into the sound stage

    Your DVD/BluRay should be wired to the Sound system not the TV, on the sound system you then select the correct input on the sound system, it plays the sound and passes the picture to the TV.

    See page 7 on http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/4487195221.pdf

    You should then be able to change the input on the base station once you want to go back to the TV
  • Thanks, at least I know I've wired it correctly. For some reason when I change the intput back to the TV I then get no sound at all and have to switch the soundstage off and on again to get it to work. It was a refurbished model from Sony Outlet so I wonder if it's some kind of fault. I'll just have to put up with it : )

    Was trying to think there what way ours is rigged up.

    From memory

    Sky -> TV (hdmi)
    Blu Ray -> TV (hdmi)
    Xbox One -> TV (hdmi)

    TV -> Sound system via optical lead.

    All works perfectly.

  • The norm wouldnt be to use the TV as the hub but the sound system, which is how Sony recommend wiring it up.

    Sound processing often takes a little longer than picture processing (talking fraction of a second) hence you put everything via the sound system that can then fractionally delay the picture it sends to the TV/Projector etc to remove the lip sync issue
