.cmp file to covert to .mp3 music file, is this possible?

I have tehcnics En3 organ and it has a floppy disc drive, I can save recorded music onto the floppy and play it back, when I uploaded the floppy into my pc floppy drive and moved the song over to my computer, the file,,, it stated its in cmp format, so then I searched the internet to see if I could covert it to mp3 so can play on my computer, but alas could not find much really...
any ideas?

Thanks.

It's probably a form of midi file - ie it is an electronic form of musical score or pianola reel as opposed to sound per se. It tells the organ when to play each key.

To get a proper recording of the output you'd probably need to use the headphone socket or similar

Yes it is midi and I have been putting on my pc the old fashioned way which is a bit of a long way around, I record the music I compose place onto the floppy from my technics organ, then I connect the tape machine up to organ and record music straight to tape, then I put a microphone to my pc and hold it to the tape machine with song on it, thats the way I been doing it.

So wondered if by dragging the .cmp file from floppy straight to pc if could covert it that way. but have found no programs that do this....
  • pc just told me its not a midi file so it cant do it.

you could shorten the long way by connecting the organ up directly to the pc with an audio cable, and using windows sound recorder. Tapes and microphones just add noise.

Also if the organ has midi out you could connect that to midi in on the sound card if it has one, (or use a usb midi in), which opens up another world of possibilities using midi composition and recording software.
