Cleaning blu ray player lens.

Can somebody please advise whether it is OK to use lens cleaners on blu ray players?
I've read they can use damage the sensitive blu ray lens because a brushing mechanism is involved.
If this is the case can you recommend alternatives?
Thank you.

As far as I'm aware Lens cleaners should not be used on BD players as the brush can scratch the lens. It's the same reason why they shouldn't be used to clean DVD or CD lenses.

Would it be OK to use a compressed air canister to remove any build up of dust?

How are you getting dust on the laser lens? How do you know it is too dusty?

Over time isn't there always going to be a certain amount of dust that accumulates?

What's wrong with immersing it in hot soapy water?

If there are no playback issues then it doesn't need cleaned. These cleaning discs are a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. I have had various CD, DVD and BD players and they have worked for years without ever cleaning the lens.

Quite possibly, but if everything is working with no problems then you don't have to do anything. Only if the player stopped reading discs would you have to investigate and possibly try lens cleaning. I have yet to have any of my optical disc players stop working and require a lens clean.
