Switching
Options
Something to watch for anyone switching -
Just gone through the switching process via the MSE collective and the potential savings were about £20 a month.
Great, I thought, BUT the figures used to give this fantastic saving were NOT the ones I entered in the relevant boxes and the actual savings will average out at about £10 per month over the year - still not bad, though.
This discrepancy only came to light when I read the welcome and switching emails, so it's worth looking into.
Also, the new supplier has proposed to set the DD ridiculously low, so I've also emailed them asking/telling them to set it at a more realistic level in order to stop them hitting my bank account with a demand for payment which will not get paid due to a lack of funds.
I have also set aside a monthly payment to a savings account in case they stick to their ridiculous low DD.

Key is always the tariff .
But few look at this and prefer the estimates .0 -
Blame Ofgem for inflated savings.

Or use theenergyshop.com to compare what you pay now with what you will pay going forward. If the new supplier has offered you a low DD then it is possible that you have entered incorrect annual projections of usage. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. As I said, I entered my annual usage and the site came back with figures which were at least 3000kwh below what I entered.
Don't know how the energy company arrived at their low figure for the DD as, even using the lower figures supplied by their systems, there projected DD monthly payments were way below what it should have been, and an exorbitant amount below what I should be paying for what I actually use.0 -
Which company - it might help if others could check their own projections? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Switch from Scottish Power to First Utility - only started this thread as a warning to others as to what might happen.0

Yep - I can get a £200 saving on a SP tariff which finishes at the end of this month based on 11.5 months on its standard tariff and, yes, the true saving is £9 a month. If you feel strongly that the Ofgem-approved comparison methodology is wrong then complain to Ofgem at consumer affairs@ofgem.gov.ukThis is a system account and does not represent a real person.
