How do think a neighbour planted a trojan on your system? Do you let them access it?

    AV scan found it.

    I haven't upgraded to Win 10.

I would firstly suggest you change your AV, preferably to one that stops Trojans getting installed in the first place rather than one that just tells you you have already been infected.

A neighbour is almost certainly not behind it all, it takes a lot of skill to hack a network and they'd most likely go for an unlimited network than a mobile broadband one.

The virus itself has probably used your data if it's not updates downloading.

More likely an email (I've been getting a lot of "invoice" and "bill" type ones lately), and the trojan's title ended "eml".

OK, so 'Trojan' has a very specific meaning of a piece of software that masqueraded as something else. It's almost certainly nothing to do with accessing your mifi directly.

If someone has accessed your mifi, change the connection password and reboot now, the problem ends. Those mifi units have pathetic range though, so the person must be almost in the same room as you - check the connections log and make sure you understand it before going next door ;-)

My hunch is that this trojan or some other activity (eg W10 download which is 3GB) has used your data.

I'm in the "it's Win10" camp too - especially given that size, too much of a co-incidence. I "reserved" it way back when and then got a huge 3GB hit last week when it finally (silently!) downloaded. Not installed it yet though - almost certainly gonna be issues, so let the "early adopters" & fashion-followers deal with them.....

Bob, do you have the white Windows icon down on the right of your task-bar, near volume & stuff? If so then you've reserved Win10 and it's downloaded in the background.

You may not have upgraded but it has probably downloaded the 3GB of files needed to do the upgrade already.

I got caught out like that.

    Already done.

Actually, from personal experience, not true.

I can easily access from my garden.

I have got the 4 pane window icon, but I haven't reserved anything.

Indeed, I've been clicking the X, every time the nag screen pops up.

It's me that can access my MiFi modem, from the garden.
