The world is simply made up of givers and takers. The "Me first" types aren't able to see that even with debt there are others FAR less fortunate than they are. There are degrees of poverty-the fact that most people on here have an internet connection in their homes is a degree of "wealth" that they take for granted-and one that (say) the homeless in the UK or many of the population in 3rd world countries would consider a non essential luxury.
    It's all relative.

  • Only today i was reading some of the debt forums here and various posts where people are in debt and nearly bankrupt yet they were saying how they were having problems with paying there sky tv, mobile bills, internet etc. I had to sit and hold my hands or i would have typed something. To me if i had money problems, some of my luxery items would be the first to go, like the sky, mobile, and internet even my landline would go if i was in that situation. But thats just me, everyone acts different. I do tend to agree with the above post by ianna about what people would do with a little spare cash if they had it rarther than it going to charity, having said that its all about control of money i guess.

I think it's absurd to give money to a charity while you are paying interest to a bank. IMO once you're out of debt, then you can contribute fiscally to a charity. Until then give time, skills and look after your neighbours and friends.

Bloodsucking charities.....taking all the money off the generous, spending the costs on 'admin' then asking for more damn money. Africa's still up the shitter, even after all my donations. Children are still gettin beat by their parents, even though i donated to that charity. I give and give and give, and they take and take and take, then they do what seems to be nothing. Absolutely nothing.

This man is right. The quicker you get rid of interest payments the more money you'll have in the long run to give away to whatever charities you like.

I think that giving to worthwhile causes is great, but if you are costing other people in order to do it, then it seems hypocritical to me. If you are in debt then it is quite possible that someone is suffering because of your unpaid/latepaid bills, the interest rates that everyone is charged because of the fear that you will renege on your mortgage etc etc. It seems to me that if no one was in unmanageable debt ( I'm not counting credit card stoozing, budgeted mortgages etc) then we would all have more money to spend on charities or whatever because costs would be lower. (In the same way that if there was no theft then shop prices would be lower).
When I became unemployed I gave up giving to charity by direct debit and started helping out in practical ways when I could, and making one off donations via collecting tins or whatever when I had spare cash.
