YB says never had PPI?

Hi.
We've had almost constant loans from Yorkshire Bank for the past 36 years until a couple of years ago.
I wrote asking if we had ever had PPI. They sent back a list of 12 loans with account numbers, all saying 'No PPI'.
There is one for a Credit Card that says yes, that had PPI, but we haven't used that card for donkeys years.
My question is, do I trust what they say?
From what I've read they were one of the main culprits, and also fined massively in April for lying etc.
So, following that fine etc, should I take as gospel that we didn't have PPI?
I just find it hard to believe that this particular bank never once added PPI to one of the 12 loans at least.
Thank you
Paul

If you know the amount borrowed, interest rate, term and payment you made you can check for yourself by using one of the loan calculators available on internet. If the monthly payment comes out the same as you paid then you didn't have PPI, if you paid significantly more per month then you probably did have PPI or something else added on0

Its not a matter of trust. Its a matter of available information covering a 36 year period. What they are saying is that they have not been able to locate any evidence of PPI. However, evidence of debts 36 years ago will be non-existent. Although PPI didnt exist 36 years ago.I just find it hard to believe that this particular bank never once added PPI to one of the 12 loans at least.
Did you say no to it when asked? If so, then they would not add it.
It should also be noted that the fine related to complaints between 2011 and 2013. Not those outside of those periods.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). As they were "fined massively in April" I imagine they will be making every effort to ensure the information they provide is accurate.

My partner had a YB loan in 1988 which had an extra charge described as "debit under advice" next to the loan on his bank statement, At first the bank denied it was PPI, then following a review said it was PPI.
I doubt they are lying, however it might help to obtain your old transaction histories and check yourself. If there was no PPI on the loans, you've still got the credit card to complain about.0 -

Bank in 88, the payment for PPI would have involved a manual debit being processed using a fairly generic description. So, in those cases, it may not always be obvious. However, you would expect the bank to know their own systems!!. That said, so many of the banks use third parties with their complaint handling and those people dont know internal quirks or issues and that allows these sorts of mistakes to occur. It is no surprise that many of the fines for bad complaint handling have been where the bank contracted out the complaint handling.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thanks for the replies.
I have no records of loans. YB procedure is you write and ask if you ever had PPI. They've sent me a list of 12 loans. Product type; Acc No; PPI held. No other details. I assume each one is all the loans we ever had from them.
Dunstonh - Did you say no to it when asked? If so, then they would not add it.
I thought the whole PPI thing was about PPI being added even when you said no, among other things?
If the banks contract out complaint handling, and mistakes are made, is it worthwhile sending my claim to the Ombudsman, as I've read elsewhere at some time?
It just seems strange to me that with banks track records on PPI, YB had 12 opportunities to sneak PPI on, but didn't?
I will of course follow the Credit card up. If it really is 12 times we said no to PPI and it wasn't added, we wouldn't have said yes to the card one.
Once again, thanks for the replies.

No. Its mainly pressure sales or not being told about it at all and having it added. If the banks contract out complaint handling, and mistakes are made, is it worthwhile sending my claim to the Ombudsman, as I've read elsewhere at some time?
If you have reason to not believe them then you can refer to the FOS. The FOS will ask them to verify and they will respond. If they verify none held to the FOS then the FOS will close the case (and not charge them the FOS fee).It just seems strange to me that with banks track records on PPI, YB had 12 opportunities to sneak PPI on, but didn't?
Most people did not take out PPI. Despite all the coverage, it only affects a minority of people. So, having the majority of your debts without PPI only fits what most people find.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
