Bank account moving house

Hi there.

I have moved to a new area and have filled and sent off a form to Halifax regarding my new address details.

My sort code will be changing as my nearest branch is obviously different.

I understand my dd s and so s will automatically be switched.

However what happens to my bank cards ? They all have the old sort code so presume I get sent new ones ? If so what's the process here ? I'm worried I will go to pay for something after my old cards are deactivated etc

Thanks in advance

It is unlikely anything will change apart from your address on their system. These days sort codes are not usually linked to physical branches but if it is your servicing branch will remain the same but you can carry out any business at the nearest branch.

As molerat says, there is almost no chance that anything other than your address will be changed. But if it is any transactions done on the old account should be automatically forwarded to the new one for a period (probably 13 months). SOs would be switched to the new account but I don't believe that the bank would take responsibility for switching DDs and you would need to advise the originator of the new details (I could be wrong about this as it's a long time since I worked on DD processing). But I would be very surprised if you need to do anything.

    Halifax has both types.

The current (and ex) Building Societies tended to use central sort codes and traditional banks tended to have branch based sort codes.

Maybe they are linked at account opening but they do not usually change when the account holder moves.
