Gas cert before completion, boiler condemned after completion.....

Thats nothing to do with the mortgage lender.0 -
Is a missing backplate a reason to condemn the entire boiler? I really don't know, but as suggested above, some companies are keener than others to condemn so as to get the new boiler business.
Get a 2nd opinion, or post full details of the boiler make, model, age, and engineer's report over on DIYNot here. Lots of gas engineers post there.0 -
'All' a gas safety certificate does is say the installation was safe on the day. Your only call for redress would be if there was some false statement on the certificate or if the engineer wasn't registered with gas safe to do the inspection.
You would have a case against the seller if the certificate was forged in some way.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Bg have different policys, as long as gas is not escaping and is vented its fineDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

I'd be skeptical of any report provided as a freebie. At this stage, I'd be commissioning my own report (none BG). Which is probably what you should have done before purchasing if you wanted one.
If what you say about the missing part is true, and not having the part is black and white in terms of condemning the boiler, then one of the people who carried out the inspection is not doing their job properly. If it's the vendor's inspector, I might refer this to GasSafe. If it's the mortgage companies, I'd refer this back to them (and perhaps GasSafe).
Whether you need a new boiler or not, considering getting a carbon monoxide alarm. As people have said, gas safety certificates are much like MOTs, and only indicate the boiler is fine on the day it's tested."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0 -

I had a similar issue. I insisted that the vendor get the boiler serviced and certified before completion as a condition. They provided copies of the invoice and cert.
Took out boiler insurance when I moved in and they came to inspect the boiler, opened it up and instantly condemned it.
£2k later and we have a lovely new Vaillaint ecotec 637 installed.
Naughty vendors.0 -

Naughty vendors.
Why are the vendors naughty? They provided what you asked for - or are you saying they forged something?
Condemned it on what basis - dangerous or not able to get parts for a repair? As has been said, if this is BG they have a reputation for saying older boilers are not repairable when parts are freely available. There are bonuses on offer for their employees who sell new boilers.0 -

Yes it was a forgery.
They scanned in an old copy of a gas safe certificate and ticked the service box. You can see where they've covered up the old date.
The boiler was entirely corroded inside.0
