NatWest ??? Please help - Got text saying to call

Hi, I've just had a text from NatWest (sender on phone is CardsNWB apparently) saying:
CardsNWB wrote:
We need to speak to you urgently. Please calls us on 08453012134. Natwest Cards Customer Service.

Now would they contact me by text? wouldn't they call? I don't know what there customer service is like...But I do have a NatWest card?
I couldn't find that number on their website...But that doesn't mean it's not theirs either.

Any ideas? Is an 0845 number a charge number? (sorry, might sound stupid...but I wasn't born here and don't generally call numbers like that so I don't know)

Thanks a lot

Luke

My first thought would be why does my bank have my mobile number. 0845 is local rate. To just make absolutely sure why don't you ring your bank (not that number).

  • hi, in my opinion it might be genuine it might not. Your best bet would be to call whatever number you do have for natwest (if its like hsbc, you'll find a number on the back of your debit/credit card) and ask them if the text is genuine and why it was sent. Or ask for whoever sent the text to call you.And then if it is genuine you could call it.
Think about it logically though, if it was that urgent they'd ring wouldn't they?

An 0845 number is charged at local rate (about 3p per min from a landline, but possibly more from a mobile) Its cheaper than an 0870 number to call. (Someone may correct me if I'm wrong!)

You're not being stupid. You're being very sensible by checking first rather than blindly doing as you're told by someone you don't know.

Just rung it for you, its Natwest/Tesco and Royal Bank of Scotland COLLECTION.

It may be in relation to a missed payment.

Ring this number instead, its free they will give you the information you need:

    0845 0011223 (chargeable) 0208 8044892(local rate)
  • Never heard of a bank texting before... don't call the number - call the number on your card. It may by someone phishing...

Your smart to be caution... better safe than sorry.

On Natwest Site - the credit cards page they do list 2 numbers - one being a textphone....
    "You can call us on 0800 096 0220. Textphone 0800 028 5304."
    Neither are 0845 though????

Thanks everyone for your prompt response. I gave them a call on the alternate number, and it was due to a missed payment, which I've never done before. I thought I'd set up a direct debit for them and obviously I hadn't (they said this actually happens a lot because when you sign up they ask for all your bank details and people assume they are doing that for direct debit)

Thanks again for your help that's one less stress on my mind at the moment!
