Incorrect late payment on file

Good evening,

I have just checked my Equifax credit report after receiving an alert for a late payment.

This relates to my mobile phone contract with Talkmobile. Back in early June I changed my bank direct debit details. When the payment was due no money was taken. I called them up to find out what had happened and they explained that when direct debit details were changed, they would not collect that month and take the extra payment the following month (i.e. double). I did query this at the time and the operator assured me that this was perfectly normal for the company. On 24th July the double payment was taken however my credit file is now showing a late payment for August (?my payment in August isn't due until 24th).

I wasn't sure where to go from here, i.e. do I need to call Talkmobile or go direct to the credit reference agency(ies)- never had any credit file issues, so a newbie when it comes to all of this - any help appreciated.

Many thanks

It might be easier to speak to TalkMobile first as if you raise a dispute via the CRAs they'll only refer it back to TalkMobile to let them fix it or provide and explanation.

I say "might" because I have no idea how easy it will be to get through to someone who understands/ can do something about your problem.

Thanks I was hoping you werent going to say that- not had a lot of sense from them before when speaking to them on the phone. Will give them a call in the morning, and if get nowhere, escalate to a complaint.

The strange thing is that it is showing August as the late payment - I dont even get my bill until the 10th and payment taken on the 24th!

As you've mentioned you wasn't sure whether to contact each Credit Reference Agency (CRA) as your report is with Equifax, boo_star mentioned that your CRA(s) will be able to dispute incorrect information that your lenders have provided and how it appears on your report such as a late payment, directly with them on your behalf.

If you haven't got the contacts details already for the other CRAs I have listed them below:

    Callcredit PLC:
    Consumer Services Team,
    P O Box 491,
    Leeds,
    LS3 1WZ

    Equifax Ltd,
    Customer Service Centre,
    PO Box 10036,
    Leicester,
    LE3 4FS

Thank you for your help. Looking at the CRA reference on this website it looks like Talkmobile report to Equifax and yourselves.
I may well take a look at my Experian report and report the issue to you also.

I have escalated with Talkmobile who have said they will refer to their credit team and hopefully get the late payment removed. As I am registered with Equifax I have also informed them of the issue.
