Samsung Induction hob (NZ64H37070K)

I purchased one these hobs from ao.com using their ebay channel back in April.

I also have a Miele induction hob in another property.

The Samsung hob works exactly as you would expect at full setting on each ring. But any lesser setting causes it to pulse on off on off on off .... Which makes it impossible to simmer anything as it rapidly boils then stops, then does it again.
In contrast the Miele hob, just works like a gas hob, you cut the temperature it instantly changes and maintains that new steady temperature.

The pulsing makes precision cooking pretty much impossible. So I called Samsung and complained. They sent an engineer, who was not a happy bunny. First thing he said was I hope this isn't going to take long! And his only aim was to leave asap. He fained interest and made sure he got the serial number so he could claim he'd attended.

I demonstrated the issue and he said, that's working as designed. He told me: "I've seen more induction hobs than you and they all work this way"

So I complained to Samsung again, after several emails they said we've checked with our lead engineer and says it's working as he expects.

We can send another engineer... Or you can return it to ao.com as it was missold.

Meantime I asked John Lewis if this behaviour was "normal" in induction hobs, and they said no.
I've done a lot of googling and can't find anyone complaining of the same behaviour.

So clearly waiting in for another engineer isn't going to progress the problem, so I contacted ao.com and asked for a refund. They are now of course saying no, it's working to spec. I'm saying well it doesn't say anything in Samsung's documentation or your advert that was how it was going to work, so I think I have a case of being missold...

Does anyone have the same induction hob and does it behave the same way? or some other brand?

Are ao.com right in saying tough luck?

Thanks!

Looking at the manual it doesn't mention exactly how it works when not on full power but it does say that "some clicking can occur but that is normal" which suggests to me that instead of using a variable power device it just turns on at full power for X seconds then off again for x seconds to reduce the overall temp. I have a Samsung TV but not sure I would trust them to make my washing machine or hob. Consumer contracts regs (previously distance selling regs) say you have 14 days to return goods so you are well outside that though ao might have extended that but doubt it will be to 4 months though. Also they say nothing wrong with it so not much you can do I'm afraid.

So either you are stuck with it or you have to buy a new one. (Not Samsung)
