Installing freestanding elec. oven - help

We're in the market for a new kitchen, and plan to install it ourselves (with the help of trained friends!) - we currently have a freestanding electric oven.
We want to reuse the oven in the new kitchen, but were wondering if there are any guidelines or advice on fitting it; more specifically the space required between the oven and the surrounding units. The current oven has quite a bit of space to each side of it (where things fall down...) and we'd like to minimise that if possible - but don't know if we need to keep a certain space free because of the heat and everything.
Any advice would be great please!, thanks in advance

my oven is also electric and freestanding (ceramic hob on top) and has no space either side... (you'd struggle to poke an envelope down the sides). I'm pretty sure you don't need space at the sides... my old electric cooker in my last flat had five cm either side but that is coz it was a 50 cm cooker in a 60 cm hole !!
it had a sort of grille thing at the back where heat could escape out the back I suppose but my new one is totally a snug fit, back and sides. Try and look at your oven manual (online if you've not still got it... ) there will be safety guidelines in it with regard to wiring and if there was a minimum space requirement they'd have to tell you about it.0
