I don't particularly like FLASH with it's constant updates and trying to get users to download "add ons" such as toolbars and was not particularly surprised when it was announced as a security risk (blocked by Firefox) - but what are we supposed to use to view BBC videos etc ?
Either on Firefox or IE....??
When I try viewing BBC videos - it keeps on pointing me towards flash !!

everything is a security risk, including firefox (version 39.0.3 - ridiculous), but the risk is small, backups and antivirus help. the firefox blocking can be turned off in about:configDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0

Disconnect your computer from the internet and any other networks, remove/disable/block all external ports where something can be plugged in and also block the floppy and CD drives etc. That is the only way to be 100% safe.

You want to watch flash sites then you need flash .
Complain to the sites that are still using flash .0 -
FF>User agent switcher > Android 4.4.2 Chrome 35. No flash needed.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0

I looked into this a while back. There is an attempt at a 3rd-party version of Flash, but (as Adobe Flash is proprietary, closed-source), from what I've read it doesn't work very well. Some sites, like YouTube, are moving towards using HTML5 instead of Flash -- many videos are available in both versions and you'll get the HTML5 one if you don't have Flash installed. But, if a site (like BBC iPlayer, etc.) only provides a video stream in Flash format, the only viable way to watch it is to install Flash. You can mitigate the risks by setting it to "Ask to activate", and only activate it on sites you trust.0
