Is he (or anybody in the family) in education as a student or staff? The apple education page is worth a visit.
If budget's tight, better might be to go online like ebay and find a reliable reseller for a not-so-new model (this'll be the only way he'll get one for under say £500.
The techie bit -he'll want one that has an intel chip with a speed of over 2Ghz and I'd imagine 4Gb of memory and probably 200Gb of storage in the hard drive. Possibly he may need a superdrive if he wants to play DVDs or CDs.
If it runs an operating system it needs to be OSX 10.10. If it isn't, check if it's upgradeable. This very website has links to useful free software.
Use auctionsniper to buy the machine if its on auction. You have to give them your ebay details but I've never had a problem.;)
They're great machines, don't currently get viruses.:T
The tech bit is over my head, but DS2 is a student so I will get him to register when he returns from Slovenia.
I want to spoil DS3 a little... he never asks for anything (unlike the older kids).TrulyMadly wrote: »SSM....sorry I didn't get to wish all went well yesterday.....did it?
I'm guessing you must be pleased it's all over. Isn't it awful how there is such a delay between losing someone and their funeral. When I was young it used to be 3 or 4 days....just enough time to get everything organised .... I have known a recent local time lapse of nearly 3 weeks:eek: poor souls
Thanks TM.. it is very good to have it over with.
The delay was due mainly to my availability as I had work commitments that could not be changed (the funeral director knows us.. so he just said that they could not hold the funeral on the days I was not available).
I have decided that apart from his mum and brothers, I don't want to see his family ever again!100 -
I've always bought 5 of everything for my lot, my lot are stinkers andonly get 1 day out of their uniforms. I do school uniforms at the weekend, wash and iron and then there are no additional dramas during the week. Getting 3 kids and a hubby up and out on week mornings is enough for me to contend with never mind having to think about, do they have clean/ironed uniformstowear.
Do what you have to do to make life easier.
I'm having a terrible battle with Ds2 about deodorant. So I've got it that the blast of an aerosol is really offensive to him. I've bought numerous roll on ones and stick type ones for him but he's really digging his heels in.
I forgot...
it's not hot today, I won't sweat....
I can't smell it :rotfl::rotfl:......
I've had to resort to to threatening behaviour (computer, Tv and gadget bans)
I said to him a few weeks ago before school finished, you don't want people to be thinking you are smelly and talking about you.
He said 'There's lots of smelly people at school, I don't talk about them and anyway they'll talk about me whether I'm smelly or not'
An answer for everything0 -

Trying to think the last time I sweated bullets.
Must have been the Liz Shaw crackers that's the last time I remember needing to get through SS in a flash.0 -

Oh this is just brilliant - the 'Savages' are arguing - full volume, lots of foul swear words:(
How do I find out who their landlord is?
Oh snaparen't you hoping to move soon?
I don't think there's much a landlord can do or are likely to do if they are getting their rent paid. If it causing a disturbance (and foul language that you are having to listen to is a disturbance) or you think its going to escalate then ring the police (not 999 obviously unless it gets violent)0 -

This is one thing that shocked me greatly in moving from Scotland to England  It all seems to be done and dusted within the week north of the border. I did notice a significant increase in time since I've lived here. Like you, I've experienced a 3 week ish delay.
I find it terribly hard on familiesalmost like 2 periods of grief. I'm not totally sure what the reason for it is and it's not a pleasant subject. And one you have to be ultra sensitive about.
I figure it could be a lack of crematorium time. I have only been to one funeral in recent years that was a burial and it was quicker than the others I've been to.
I really hope no one is offended by thatnone is meant at all! It's just that the subject came up

I had the texts earlier to say firstly that DD2 was with her BF and then that she had arrived safely at his families house. I don't know how parents cope whose kids go off travelling maybe not knowing where they are staying. I'm afraid I can't help my worry nature.
Not sure what DD2 will do for her final year elective yet either (at least that's another year off) it might be a testing time for me. Thinking back to when Karlie88 went off to do hers doesn't time fly....

My mum being laid to rest was delayed through choice by around a week so that DD2 could attend something at uni that wasn't going to be repeated. I am not sure what the rest of the family thought about the delay but I know my mum would not have wanted her to miss anything important.
I don't think my mum's generation would have even entertained the idea of putting off a funeral and would have just taken the first date given. Maybe just a sign of times changing.0 -

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

Good to see you back, fc, I've been trying to catch up myself since I got back.
Sorry to hear about your test; it's a good thing you got the test you needed although it doesn't probably seem like that at first.
Hope you had a good break. I'm off travelling myself this weekend. Berwick on Friday and who knows after that........:D
I have had a very in depth conversation with OH about this tonight. If you've been to Scotland a lot you will have heard the term 'sugar and sh*te' well I'm definately the sugar!
It was a heated discussion but in a good way. Anything that gets him thinking is goodMy outlook is exactly as you have said for the reasons I've already said. His outlook is OMG you will have this hanging over you, worrying all the time.....I'm going to worry, the kids will worry, I will worry if you feel unwell you will tell no one......blah blah you get the picture?
It's sad that he became a glass half empty person, because he honestly wasn't always. But it's good that he's thinking about the what ifs. He wasn't 6 months ago when he didn't care who he left behindI like to call it progress.....
As I said last night some bad things happen because of choices that are made and some things will just happen anyway0 -

Hope all are well. I haven't caught up. It's one of my new me resolutions. Don't spend ages catching up on what I missed because I didn't have time to read in the first place to get to the end of it and realise I didn't miss anything much:o Have found that reading back a page or 2 soon reveals any glitches or major pieces of news
and what will happen if I do miss anything?
Work today......people still telling me I look tired despite an extra layer of concealer. Well I am tired, I have a lot of sleep to catch up on. I did have a naughty thought of telling them all what I think they look like as well ........but it was fleeting :rotfl::rotfl:
Then the school shoe trip. I got DS2 feet measured and he's a size 8 :eek: his last shoes were a 6.5 and he never said a word about them being too small:o I felt awful! Don't know if he genuinely didn't know they were too small because of sensory problems etc. or just no understanding and trusts that I will buy new ones when and if he needs them
:o
To be fair he's gone up 3 sizes in a year  I still feel bad though and I should've performed more regular checksChildline have been informed.
I just decided to buy all the 'sundries' whilst I was out. 2 pairs school shoes, 2 pairs trainers, 2 pairs footy boots, 12 white shirts, 12 pairs boxers, 20 pairs of socks , 2 gym bags and 2 school bags _pale_
Why so many shirts? Because they are smelly with dirty necks and I can't be doing white washes mid week. So a clean shirt for everyday......I'll do the laundry at the weekend......and one for a Monday before the cleaning lady does the ironing:whistle: :A
Fun aside, I felt happy buying the stuff. For once I was happy that I'm the one kitting my kids out instead of feeling moany about how much it costs. Perspective I think
I rarely read the forum in the daytime, it is my bedtime reading.
The thought behind this is it is very rare I would rush out to buy a glitch incase it finished so no need to check several times a day.
I take it these are 'school boxers' not 'school trip' boxers?
Got to be done so might as well enjoy it. I use to find school shirts rarely needed ironing. Definitely at that age boys need a clean shirt every day, along with socks and boxers so you have made it easy to understand too.
I remember last year your dd changed her mind on her school bag 48 hours before term began.
Popped round to see how house was going and nice man showed us round the 2 opposite mine. Very impressed and feeling far more comfortable now have been in one. Kitchen units are pot luck but both kitchens I saw were lovely so not worried.
Feeling blessed my lovely dad left me in this fortunate situation and I will not have to answer to a landlord much longer.
Meeting N tomorrow to check out her wardrobe contents and see what she is going to pack (and what she really needs to buy). Hopefully wul on way home as I am currently car less.
Even though there are a few glitches going on it is nice to have a quiet thread for a couple of weeks, bit like a summer holiday.
Can't wait to see the photos of little ts finished kitchen:T
