well there are quite a few ways of doing this , most req that you have access to another computer ,

the easiest way , is to remove the hard drive from the laptop and fit it into a case/caddy etc ,

    2 types available

    1: hard drive case
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00BH83LYG?keywords=hard%20drive%20caddy&qid=1438931751&ref_=sr_1_6&sr=8-6

    2: caddy
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00IS7Y96I?keywords=hard%20drive%20caddy&qid=1438931751&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1

those 2 were taken at random from amazon

when the drive is removed and placed in the case/caddy , and plugged into the USB slot of another computer , you will be able to see and copy your files to somewhere else.

if you decide on a case , try to find one that is usb 2 , and check the depth of your drive , they vary from 7.5 to 15mm , get a case that will hold yours ok.

when you have finished copying , you could format the drive , then copy your files back and have a portable drive.

    hope that helps

Dynamode External Housing for SATA 2.5" Hard Drive £3.59

Usually quite easy to remove the HDD from the laptop. A ten minute job.

Can the HDD be not SATA?

If it's SATA and so is the PC, can you not just connect it to the motheboard by a cable?

"Can the HDD be not SATA?"

the machine seems to have been made in about 2010 , so I think it will be SATA

yes you can just connect it to the motherboard , that is if the receiving machine has a spare sata port , or you are knolageable to remove the casing,

I said in my reply above "well there are quite a few ways of doing this" , and yes there are !

I would think the cost of a £3.59 case would pay for itself many times over

I am often asked to remove stuff from broken computers , do I go climbing inside my box and start adding drives , do I hell as like , I use a H/Drive caddy , much easier

We try to keep it simple here. If someone is asking about this, we can be sure that they aren't experienced. A caddy is recommended.

The real question is do you want to recover the photos of tour daughter so you can keep them or do you want to destroy them so if anyone comes across the computer they can't view them.

If the former then remove the HDD by taking out the battery and all the screws on the bottom and lift it off then remove the HDD by removing the screws holding it in and slide it out. Then plug it in to a caddy as listed above and use another computer to access the drive and recover the pictures.

If the latter then remove the drive as above and smash it with a hammer microwave it barbeque it deep fry it what ever takes your fancy just make sure the disc inside is destroyed I prefer the drill through the thing it shatters the disc and makes it impossible to recover data from.

only an idiot would microwave or deep fry a hard disk, obliterating with hammers is also verging on stupid.

Just buy a usb caddy, copy your data to another machine, and keep the old one for backup.

you can't even turn it on, what happens
Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand
