Today I've also:-
* Called Co op to see why I can't access my bill - apparently they only bill quarterly (last one was monthly so just assumed)
* Managed to log into Sky online but can't cancel channel that way so must speak to OH tonight - also printed latest bill for him to see the damage
* Printed 2 coupons (at work) for free breakfast bars
* Look up where nearest Morrison's is - okay actually the nearest one is 13 miles away!
* Boss sent me to the shop so uploaded receipt to COS for 5pDebt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
Current debt - £5,100
Total paid off - £10,500.89 (67% paid off)0 -
Hello Friday Frugalistas,
Just a few things from me today. mr f is off today (taking back some of the 80 hours of unpaid overtime he's had to do over the last couple of months because he's only allowed the time back, not any additional pay). Consequently, I've spent all day thinking it's Saturday.
*Grocery shopping came in on budget. Meal planning carefully this week because of top-slicing £50 off August grocery budget to pay into the car fund. It still surprises me how much shopping we can get at Aldi for our weekly budget.
*Used local market for some fresh stuff. £5 total for a big bunch of carrots, a bag each of broccoli & onions from a local farm stall (8 food miles) & 4 enormous peaches & 2lbs of pink lady apples from another stall.
*Cleaned the whole house using minimal products & washable microfibre cloths. mr f offered to hoover.......I wasn't going to turn that offer down!
*Paid another 50p piece into my sealed pot.
*Called into bank to pay in cash from our Holiday Savings Piggy (deposit on a cottage for next year), then when I got home, I paid it straight across to the credit card we used. I need to act on these swaps & things straight away or I forget how exactly I worked out the money. Will get about 60 points on CC towards next M&S vouchers :-)
*Had a free coffee at our favourite indie coffee shop as had filled loyalty card, so only paid for one & didn't get tempted by cakes or other lush offerings.
*Watered veggies.
*Picked tomatoes.
Was cross to hear this morning from a neighbour we barely know that our cat has been doing his own money-saving by sneaking in her back door & eating her cat's food.
The weekend is here. Keep your hands on your pence.
f x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Maria - I am TOTALLY with DNMS on this one! Your D-i-L comes to your house, accepts your hospitality, eats your roast dinner then thinks it's acceptable to say vile things to you in front of everyone? Oh no. Oh no, no, no, no, no! Assertiveness definitely required here. I would go with saying what DNMS suggested. Or similar. If you allow it to go unchallenged, it will continue because if she chooses to wait until she has an audience, she's clearly getting off on it somehow. I would say something like, "Would you like to explain what you meant by that comment, because I found it very rude". If she says something along the lines of she was only joking, or didn't mean it, I would say, "Well, I think it was a pretty unpleasant thing to say & I'd appreciate it if you didn't speak to me again in that manner while you're a guest in my house".
(Have to admit to once throwing a couple who behaved rudely at my house out on their ear! They came round for dinner, I made some lovely food & their behaviour was beyond the pale so I asked them to leave. They didn't think I was serious, so I got up, cleared everything off the table while they were still sitting there, walked slowly & deliberately to the front door, opened it & stood there until they'd gone!)
Be strong & don't put up with it. I wouldn't!

STBAs
I learned something useful at the Jobcentre today. (There's a first?!) New benefit claimants can claim a Short Term Benefit Advance if they can't wait a couple of weeks for their first benefit payment to come through. (Link) These replace the old crisis loans.

Hi Ally
I just tried to do the nectar link thing, but it goes to the homebase page. Is it supposed to?

Go Foxgloves! I wish I'd seen that. I have to admit to finding it extreemly hard to deal with rude customers. I've had a few recently that have made me feel very uncomfortable. Slightly different to home turf though, especially when they are there with customers I do like. And Im the only member of staff so I cant just throw a strop really. Much as I'd like to.
Anyway, I just did a quick tidy of my bank account so thats another £9 to THE DEBT. May be slightly addicted at the moment, but Im sure there are worse things
Oh and after thinking I was on easy street earlier, it was a busy lunch hour. If we keep having a proper lunch hour I will hire someone for that shift, maybe 2 hours to begin with. But I am so suspicious of any patterns that seem to emerge in my place.
I am SO glad its the weekend, I can hardly contain myself.

Yes. I've done that survey before and it does pay out. Sainsbury's and Homebase are both owned by the same corporation.Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0 -
Just to clarify the Nectar Points offer I mentioned earlier as I wasn't very clear.

There are two offers:
One is to click on this Link and go and do a quick survey on the Homebase website. When you do this it asks for your Nectar card number and you are rewarded with 50 Nectar Points.
The other offer is to click on this Link to go directly into your Nectar account online. Once on this page you sign in and you see Your Latest Bonus Points offers. You then click to Activate the "200 bonus points offer" which you should see.
Having done this you shop at Sainsbury's six times between now and 1st October. Each time you shop hand over your Nectar card as you would normally to get Nectar Points. You will automatically be rewarded with 200 points when you have made 6 visits. You will also get 10 bonus points for each of the 6 visits you make.
