OS Daily 7th August

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Nice day here again, off to work for me today at they busy site today so should pass quickly, dd working today too gives her a bit more money.


OH and I are going to treat ourselves to a takeaway tonight after a busy week, it will probably be a curry (but don't tell him that, its his favourite and he would have it every week if he could, I like to keep him guessing :rotfl:)


Won't be doing much more tonight just a film and wine on the sofa, dd is off out for the night so its just the two of us.


Will do a wash tonight ready to hang out in the morning and have a swish of the kitchen and that will do.

morning one and all. It's a beautiful start here for a change, lovely to feel the sun shining in.

The 3 DGDs were all late to bed last night so hoping they will sleep in a bit this morning. It was the youngest's 5th birthday yesterday so she was a bit excitable! She'd had a lovely afternoon with lots of her friends (and their mums) at Hesketh Farm play park near Bolton Abbey. Stroking baby animals, grooming and nursing others. They all fell in love with the baby spotted pigs!

I had their usual favourite meal ready for them - Cheesy bolognese bake - I'd had a text from the eldest to say they were on their way and she hoped it was a huge one as they were all starving! It was and every bit got eaten!

The gas fire shop are sending a fitter out today to check the fire we have chosen is suitable for our fireplace and also to check the chimney! Eeek I've never had that done before it must be some new health and safety ruling that's come out since we got our old fire. He hasn't given us a time so we can't venture far until he's been. If it's early we might take the girls out for lunch but, if not, I'll have to delve in the freezer.

They all seem to cross over into each other so I'm a bit confused as to what's what, lol. I suppose they're all just fancy names for what used to be called mind games. Fascinating stuff.[/FONT]

[FONT=Verdana, sans-serif]I've been sorting. I keep tidying the same things, I realised the other day that The Others are moving the things to get to the stuff they want. They're not actually using the things. So I've been gradually removing them and finding another use for them or throwing them in the bin. If I do it all in one go they'll notice then insist that everything is needed so I'm being careful – the next bin day isn't til next thursday so I've stopped for now and will carry on when the bin has been emptied [/FONT]

[FONT=Verdana, sans-serif]I haven't done much else, I need to pick back up where I left off and get some niggly little jobs out of the way. Mr tru is off today so I probably won't get much done, I'll get back in gear tomorrow.[/FONT]

Morning everyone.

Still here TA - I have a two hour teaching session and am then going down to Mum's in Glasgow. My flight isn't until Sunday evening but there's a few things Mum needs done before I get my winter sun.

It's a beautiful morning here too, most strange indeed. Cold still but the sky is blue, the sea is sparkling and Jura is fully visible again.

I've already got the final wash on and will get it hung out before my 'work'. There's only a final DW run to do and then all's sorted. I was packed ages ago but last night had a sudden panic about socks, had to open the case and search, and I was right - no socks. Now I have socks.

My porridge is ready and my cup of tea growing cold.

Good Morning everyone, a beautiful day in the making here and due to go up to 23 degrees, I think it will be lunch in the garden under the umbrella today!

He Who Knows is heading allotmentwards this morning and I'm houseworking and chutney making to use up some of my plentiful supply of courgettes. Luckily I also have a plentiful supply of onions and tomatoes too and some cooking apples and all the other things I need including the jars so all I need to supply is the elbow grease.

We had a clearing session in the polytunnel yesterday aftrnoon, I picked all the dry beans from the vines I'd left up for drying purposes and I've shelled out 17oz of canellini type beans and have twice the amount still to do. Those aren't quite completely dry yet so are on a tray on top of the boiler finishing off. The podded beans will be sealed in a bag and into the freezer for 48 hours to see off any pests and then they will be into a jar to use this winter in soups etc. all for free! We've planted in some rows of carrots where they were, usually harvest them around March when it's nice to have something fresh to use. Love my polytunnel!

LW, glad to hear you have Bailey & Cassie coming to visit soon, hugs to Elona, Molly & anyone else in need.

Fish fed, hubby & I have a cuppa each, I'll cook his breakfast when he gets up & then drop him at work.

I'm going back in to the room of doom today, my shelf units are up & I gathered together all the storage boxes/baskets I had bought and been given, I'm hoping to find the floor today!

Tomorrow I will be feeding a colleagues cats, fish & gerbils & watering her greenhouse for 10 days.

Monday & Thursday next week I'm working and again on the 28th.

Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a beautiful sunny day here today. Hubby has gone off to work and the girls are still asleep but I will be getting them up in a little while as they will be decorating DD14's bedroom today. DD15's room looks really good, they did a great job and even tidied up properly after themselves.

I had a very unexpected bill yesterday of nearly £400 so it's time to tighten our belts for the rest of the month. Luckily I had some money saved towards getting a car so I could pay it but it was still a shock to the system. Never mind, it's done now and I am hopefully on top of the situation now so it won't happen again.

I've taken some mince out to make a big lasagne for tea with some salad and garlic bread. Hubby was a bit miffed I wasn't going to do chips as well but that would be just a carb overload . It won't stop him snaffling ginger nuts and pringles all evening though and then he moans that he can't lose weight .

Its a bit grey this morning, not sure if rain is forecast or not. No washing to do, so thats OK.

Up early, we are expecting the Red Cross OT to come and measure our bathroom with a view to having a wet room installed, neither of us can sit in the bath, if I get in, my knees will not allow me to get out, and OH has to sit in with this knees under his chin, as the bath is not a standard size. Again he cannot get out once he is in. No idea how long we will have to wait for it to be done.

More plants put in last yesterday and garden watered last night, hope it rains tonight then it will not have to be done tomorrow night.

OH cleaning the car its ages since it was last washed, and the country roads are dusty.

Beautiful day here Washing on the line. Men went fishing at silly o clock this morning.

I've just sat and watched the 'Sex in School' programme on replay. Anyone else see it? I was gobsmacked at the lack of the girls' knowledge of themselves but not at all surprised by the boys perception of sex (coming mainly from !!!!!!). I've for years believed sex ed at school should be a bit more 'open'.

Off to get a few bits of shopping later. Have a good day all

Just back home after signing on came home and had a tidy round and put the wm on off to the fracture clinic this afternoon with DS dinner tonite HM fish and chippies

Looks like a nice day so going to do bedding and towels and get them outside to dry on the line.

Youngest dd was meant to be home today but have not heard anything from her. Realised to my horror that by switching the phone around I had made receiving phone calls impossible :eek:
It was only when I got several worried e mails from a couple of my dds that I worked out what had happened. I changed the phone back to its usual place this morning and am crossing my fingers I have not missed anything important and that I can now get incoming phone calls.

I hope you get a walk in shower quickly. Ours was a godsend when DH was so ill as was having a very big bed with a mattress topper.

Going to have an omelette for lunch and then pop to the shops for something for tonight's meal. Hope I will know by then if it is for just me or for a couple of us.
