Hi there
We're thinking of buying a holiday home and ideally would like some TV and Broadband in it (don't want a phone line). I know you can have freeview for the TV, but for a few more channels, I believe you can pay a one-off fee and get a You View box? And can you have broadband on its own without coming in a package?
For the TV, do you just buy the box, plug it in to your aerial and there are no more charges?
Your advice and recommendations welcome.
Please reply in words of one syllable otherwise I won't understand it.:rotfl:
(NB, don't want Sky, and don't think Virgin Media will be possible, although we will have Virgin Media in our main home).

YouView is simply a way of getting the catchup channels so that you can access them via your BB connection. You'll not get any more channels than normal Freeview. For the TV, do you just buy the box, plug it in to your aerial and there are no more charges?
Yes it's just Freeview with BBC iplayer etc built in. Have a look at the Humax Direct website. They have good refurbished offers.(NB, don't want Sky, and don't think Virgin Media will be possible, although we will have Virgin Media in our main home).
If Virgin Media is not possible then you will have to have phone line rental as that is the only way to get BB. Standalone BB is only really available with Virgin. You can get satellite options but very expensive.0 -
Anything other than free view would entail some monthly payment (on top of the tv license). Jem16 covered all I could say on that.
Is it for renting out? If so, not sure that anything more than Freeview would be required for a holiday rental would it? As an alternative, why not supply a blu-ray player and a selection of suitable movies, and some board games etc. We often rent self catering cottages as customers, and the TV only usually gets put on as a last resort. Different if it's a holiday home for your own use of course.0 -
It's really only for us, we'll manage with the freeview. Thanks everyone for your input x(AKA HRH_MUngo)
