Technika TKSTB14 Freeview HD set top box/pvr;picky with brands of USB pendrive?

I have one of these boxes and use it with (what I think is a reasonable quality) Verbatim 15Gb USB pen-drive to record my favourite shows from the EPG. It does this well BUT occasionally when I am recording, it will freeze up after a few minutes. I have to unplug the box from the mains, remove the USB pen-drive, format it to blank it completely, then plug the box back in and it rights itself.

Has anybody had a similar problem with this model of stb/pvr unit?

Tesco tech team are useless;all they suggest is do factory reset BUT the freezing up while recording STILL raises it's ugly head from time to time. I have suggested that they formulate a ota or website-downloadable firmware update to counteract this (which they are unwilling to do;surely manufacturers should keep their gear updated regularly so no problems should arise and keeps the units sweet?).

Could it indeed be the brand of USB pen-drive i'am using which is causing the problems?

If I went to a more expensive brand of USB pen-drive say TDK/Maxell/Sandisk etc would the problem go away? Does anybody have an answer? :j

although it should work with every usb stick on the market, it's a bargain basement product, so support may be more limited than more expensive products, and the issue may be down to the stick rather than the unit.

does the manual say it is compatible with usb3 or 2?

No the manual doesn't say anything about USB 2.0/USB 3.0 compatibility;might try it with a high speed USB 3.0 compatible pen drive and see what happens. If it works better then that will probably be the case. If not I'll go for a proper recorder with tuner etc.

guessing ... but it may be more likely to work with smaller capacity usb2 than larger capacity usb3.

Using it with a 128Gb Maxell USB 3.0 pen drive and it seems to have stopped freezing after a few minutes, it records everything I want from the EPG when I set it. Seems like better brands of USB pen-drive do give better performance after all.

hi wonder if anyone knows, does this box have dc power output via the antenna cable to power the masthead amp. cheers
