Change windows size

I have a game that played OK full screen in windows 98 to 8.1 it is quite old, but flickers quite fast in windows 10.
I played about with the options for the game and if I play it in a window it is OK, however I cannot change the size of the window.
I can move it about but the size remains the same, about half the screen size.
I have tried all the compatibility settings etc. but to no avail
I am sure I read somewhere that it was possible to change a fixed window size by tweaking the registry but of course I cannot find that info.

It does it with both the inbuilt video and a video card and the drivers are windows 10.
I want to know how to alter the window size.over 73 but not over the hill.0 -
ok thanks for your concise answer regarding the make and model of the vid card, without giving the info , have fun trying to sort it out0

With most games, when playing in a window, the window size is based on the resolution the game is set at.
so to change the window size, you need to change the resolution within the game.
Not all games have changeable resolutions however, and older games may be limited in what resolutions they can be played at.
depending on the game, change the compatibility options in windows may help things.
Disabling desktop composition (in the compatibility options) often fixes problems with older games, so you should try that first0 -

Mmm, half the size of your screen, like 1024x768? Tried changing your screen size within windows just to check it is a size issue rather than an incompatibility issue?... if I play it in a window it is OK, however I cannot change the size of the window.
I can move it about but the size remains the same, about half the screen size.
