Also you could consider online storage with your Google Email (called Gmail) account. If you use Firefox there's an extension called Gspace that with allow you to use your total capacity.

So if you were to just use it for storage it's currently around 2.89 gigabytes and increasing all the time. And of course absolutely free.

start, search, all files with size > 10000kb will give you a clue where the space has gone.

The other thing to consider is, if the hard disk died, what would you lose, if you have no backup

I found an extra 2GB on my brothers hard drive the other night.

Firstly: Right click on the C: drive and select properties. Select Disk Cleanup and then More Options. Click on the button for System Restore and then OK. It'll do it's thing. This also will free up the most space as it deletes all but the last restore point.

Secondly, download, install and run CCleaner.
