Factory reset on Acer aspire one with Win 7-wont upgrade to Win 10

Ok a little knowledge is a dangerous thing; I'm an idiot-let's just get that out of the way.

So I have an old Acer notebook which was slow and horrible so I decided to do a factory reset! I wanted to upgrade to Win 10 but without the rubbish on it, so I decided this was a good idea.

So the reset is done and I try to upgrade to Win 10 and it gets stuck at 'updates' for 6 hours and won't budge. Now I've cancelled it and don't know what to do.

So, I thought I would run updates on the Acer now back on Win 7, but that kept telling me I was running out of memory and stuck again.

I thought I didn't care about this computer so I would be safe mucking around on it. Turns out I'm wrong on both counts. It has 2GB RAM if that makes any difference...help!
