V5C help... have previous owners copy

Hi
I bought a second hand car from a garage in February. I signed the V5C as did the sales guy at the garage and he filled in the bits. I also sorted my tax out there.
I didn't really think anything of this until now when I've just moved house. I read online to fill out section 6 of my V5C with my change of address and send to the DVLA. Fine, I knew I had the V5C.
However, I actually have the previous owners V5C... the one the garage owner should have sent off. It's all filled in and signed by both us dated in February.
So all this time the car hasn't been registered in my name (this is my first car so I didn't realise I should have received a new V5C in the post, I knew I had one so thought that was that!).
Anyway, I've tippexed out my old address on the section 6 which was correct at the time on buying, filled in my new address so the new V5C comes to my new address and sent it off. I've kept the date the same as obviously I don't want to forge it.
My question is... what will happen? The DVLA are going to get a V5C that is dated 6 months ago. From what I understand this is the sellers fault as it is their duty, but am I still liable as I didn't inform them?

They are probably not going to notice or do anything. However, they make it clear it is your responsibility to check the V5C is up to date and if you have not received one within 6 weeks of buying the car you are supposed to chase up DVLA.0
